In this article, we'll look at how to remove the steering knuckle and replace the front axle hub bearing

Preparing the car for the task

Suspension parts: 1, 4, 7 - nut; 2 - tie rod end; 3 - upper arm; 5 - hub; 6 - brake disc; 8 - steering knuckle; 9 - lower arm ball joint; 10, 11 - bolt; 12 - wheel bearing; 13 - spring ring; 14 - drive shaft

Loosen the wheel mounting nuts on the side of the work being performed

Raise the car and securely fix it on supports

Remove the front wheel. Tightening torque of wheel nuts 90-110 Nm

Removing and repairing the front axle hub of the car

Unscrew the mounting bolt and disconnect the front wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle. Tightening torque of the bolt is 7-10 Nm.

Removing and repairing the front axle hub of the car

Unscrew the brake caliper mounting bolts (tightening torque of the bolts is 80-100 Nm).

We take out the cotter pin (B) and unscrew the castle nut (A) (the tightening torque of the nut is 200-280 Nm)

Removing and repairing the front axle hub of the car

Unscrew the mounting bolts (A) of the ball joint of the lower suspension arm to the steering knuckle (tightening torque of the bolts 100-120 Nm)

Disconnect the steering rod end from the steering knuckle. To do this:

- remove the cotter pin and unscrew the crown nut (tightening torque of the nut 24-34 Nm);

- using a puller (09568-4A000), disconnect the ball joint (A) from the steering knuckle (tightening torque of the bolts 100-120 Nm)

Unscrew the bolts and nuts securing the shock strut (tightening torque of nuts and bolts 140-160 Nm)

Remove the wheel hub assembly with the steering knuckle

Check the hub, steering knuckle and all parts for defects

Disassembling the hub

Press out the outer bearing ring from the wheel hub using the 09216-21600, 09216-21100 tool

Use suitable mandrels in a garage

Assembly

Apply engine oil to the contact surface of the steering knuckle and wheel bearing

Install the bearing on the steering knuckle fist, using the device 09216-21100

Install the retaining ring on the groove of the steering knuckle

Press the hub onto the steering knuckle, using the device 09454-21100

Apply force to the inner ring of the bearing

Removing and repairing the front axle hub of the car

Tighten the hub on the fist, using the special device 09517-21500 (tightening torque 200-260 Nm)

Turn the wheel hub on the bearing. Make sure that the hub rotates smoothly and without jamming
