Renault Megane II Gearbox Cable Replacement

The gearbox control cables are replaced when they are worn.

Prepare the vehicle for the work.

Place the vehicle on a lift or over an inspection pit.

Disconnect the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.

Removing the floor tunnel trim — Fig. 3. Remove the floor tunnel trim

Removing the gear selector mechanism — Fig. 4. Remove the manual gearbox selector mechanism (Replacing the gear selector mechanism Renault Megane-2)

Removing the selector cover screws — Fig. 5. Remove the four screws securing the selector cover

Moving the cover aside — Fig. 6. Move the cover aside

Prising the retaining clip — Fig. 7. Prise the retaining clip

Disconnecting the cable end from the gearshift lever — Fig. 8. Disconnect the cable end from the gearshift lever

Disconnecting the cable end from the selector lever — Fig. 9. Also disconnect the cable end from the selector lever

Finally, remove the gear selector mechanism assembly.

Removing the gearshift cable end — Fig. 11. Remove the gearshift cable end from the hole in the lower selector cover housing

Removing the selector cable end — Fig. 12. Also remove the selector cable end

Install the manual gearbox control cables and all removed parts in the reverse order.
