We remove the gear selector mechanism for repair or to replace the gearbox control cables.

For this job you will need the following tools: 13 mm spanner, pliers, screwdrivers and grease.

Moving the exhaust system aside

To do this, disconnect the front pipe from the exhaust manifold, disconnect the exhaust system mounts near the catalytic converter and move the system aside.

Removing the four selector mechanism bolts

Releasing the clips

Fig. 6. Lower the selector mechanism through the opening in the floor and remove it from the vehicle

The selector mechanism must be replaced as a complete unit, as the individual parts are not sold separately.

Lifting the protective cover

Lubricating the lever joint
Fig. 10. If the gearbox control lever is difficult to move or squeaks when changing gear, it is not necessary to remove the selector mechanism; simply lubricate the lever joint

Install the selector mechanism in the reverse order.
