We remove the gear selector mechanism for repair or to replace the gearbox control cables.

For this job you will need the following tools: 13 mm spanner, pliers, screwdrivers and grease.

Moving the exhaust system aside — Fig. 1. Disconnect the mountings and move the exhaust system aside

To do this, disconnect the front pipe from the exhaust manifold, disconnect the exhaust system mounts near the catalytic converter and move the system aside.

Removing the floor tunnel trim — Fig. 2. Remove the floor tunnel trim (Replacing the centre console Renault-Megane-2)

Removing the soundproofing cover — Fig. 3. Remove the soundproofing cover

Removing the four selector mechanism bolts — Fig. 4. Remove the four bolts securing the selector mechanism to the body floor

Releasing the clips — Fig. 5. Release the clips

Removing the selector mechanism through the floor opening — Fig. 6. Lower the selector mechanism through the opening in the floor and remove it from the vehicle

The selector mechanism must be replaced as a complete unit, as the individual parts are not sold separately.

Removing the three screws for joint lubrication — Fig. 7. To lubricate the gearbox control lever joint, remove the three screws

Removing the selector mechanism cover — Fig. 8. Remove the selector mechanism cover

Lifting the protective cover — Fig. 9. Lift the protective cover and slide it up the gearbox control lever

Lubricating the lever joint — Fig. 10. If the gearbox control lever is difficult to move or squeaks when changing gear, it is not necessary to remove the selector mechanism; simply lubricate the lever joint

Install the selector mechanism in the reverse order.
