We remove the viscous fan clutch and coolant pump for replacement or repair
To make it more convenient to work, we remove the engine radiator and fan casing, as indicated in the article "How to remove the engine radiator UAZ-3151, -31512, -31514, -31519"
We unscrew the two bolts securing the coolant pump pulleys with a 12 key for several turns
Saw through the unscrewed bolts with a hacksaw
Hold the bolts with a screwdriver so that they do not rotate
The viscous coupling nut has a left-hand thread, so we unscrew the nut clockwise and turn it counterclockwise
We unscrew the viscous coupling nut with a 32 wrench, holding the pulleys from turning
If it is not possible to remove the nut, we apply sharp blows with a hammer on the key in the direction of unscrewing
Remove the viscous fan coupling from the coolant pump shaft
Using a 13 wrench, unscrew the four nuts securing the fan impeller to the viscous coupling
Remove the impeller
Install the impeller on the new viscous coupling
Using pliers, unscrew the bolt rods and screw new ones in their place
Installing the viscous coupling by hand-tightening the nut
Tighten the nut with thin-nosed pliers
It is not necessary to tighten the viscous coupling nut with a wrench when installing it, since it self-tightens when the engine is started
Replacing the coolant pump
We remove the radiator of the cooling system, as described in the article "How to remove the radiator of the UAZ-3151, -31512, -31514, -31519 engine"
Remove the viscous fan as above
We remove the auxiliary drive belts, as indicated in the article "How to replace the drive belt for UAZ-3151, -31512, -31514, -31519 units"
Using a 12 key, unscrew the bolts securing the coolant pump pulleys
Remove the washer, outer and inner pump pulleys
Loosen the hose clamps with pliers
Disconnect the heating hose from the pump
Remove the tee together with the hoses
Unscrew the bolt securing the bar to the generator
Using a 13 wrench, unscrew the nut securing the adjusting bar to the block and remove the bar from the stud
With a 13 key, unscrew the five nuts securing the pump to the cylinder block, and remove the pump
Use a 10 key to unscrew the bolt securing the pump cover
Carefully tapping with a copper hammer, remove the pump cover with gasket
We clean the cylinder block and pump from the remnants of old gaskets
Apply a thin layer of sealant to the new gaskets on both sides
We assemble and install the pump in reverse order
