Removing Renault Megane II hood components

The bonnet is removed for replacement or repair.

Tools: 10 mm and 32 mm spanners, TORX T30, flat-blade screwdriver.

Bonnet removal

Open car bonnet — Open the bonnet

Removing the washer hose from its retainers — Remove the washer hose from the retainers and detach it from the bonnet

Marking the hinge brackets with a marker — Mark the position of the hinge brackets relative to the bonnet with a marker

Undoing the nuts securing the bonnet to the hinges — Undo two nuts on each side securing the bonnet to the hinges and remove the bonnet

Removing the safety hook bracket

When replacing the bonnet:

Unscrewing the bolts securing the safety hook bracket of the bonnet lock — Unscrew the two securing bolts and remove the safety hook bracket of the bonnet lock

While holding the bonnet lock catch, loosen the locknut and unscrew the catch. Remove the spring and washer.

Bonnet refitting

Refit the bonnet in the reverse order.

If refitting the old bonnet, before tightening the bracket nuts it must be aligned using the previously applied marks.
If a different or new bonnet is being fitted, the bonnet position must be adjusted so that the gaps between the bonnet and the wings are equal, and the gap between the upper crossmember of the radiator frame and the bonnet edge is uniform along its entire length.

Replacing the bonnet lock

Tools: 10 mm and 32 mm spanners, TORX T30, flat-blade screwdriver.

Removing the upper crossmember of the radiator frame — Remove the upper crossmember of the radiator frame

Unscrewing the bolts securing the bonnet lock — Unscrew the two bolts securing the bonnet lock to the upper crossmember of the radiator frame

Lifting the lock and moving it away from the radiator frame — Lift the lock and move it away from the radiator frame

Withdrawing the end fitting from the retainer on the lock body — Withdraw the end fitting from the retainer on the lock body

Withdrawing the cable end fitting from the loop of the lock lever — Withdraw the cable end fitting from the loop of the lock lever and remove the bonnet lock

Removed bonnet lock — The bonnet lock is removed

Tip: before fitting, lubricate the locking mechanism of the lock with Litol.

If the lock closes or opens poorly, adjust the position of the catch on the bonnet.

Removing and fitting the bonnet lock release lever

Removing the lower trim of the left front pillar — Remove the lower trim of the left front body pillar

Moving the mounting block aside in the cabin — Press the retainer and move aside the mounting block located in the vehicle cabin

Pressing the retainers of the lock release lever — Press the retainers of the bonnet lock release lever

Moving the lever aside by the length of the cable — Move the lever aside by the length of the bonnet lock release cable

Pressing the retainers of the lever bracket — Press the retainers of the bonnet lock release lever bracket

Removing the lever securing bracket — Remove the securing bracket of the bonnet lock release lever

Disconnecting the release cable from the lever — Disconnect the release cable from the lever by withdrawing the cable end fitting from the lever slot

Refitting: refit the removed parts in the reverse order.
