Remove the clutch pedal if a squeak occurs when the pedal is moved due to wear on the plastic bushings.

Also remove it when replacing the return spring.

Removing the Clutch Pedal

Prepare the vehicle for the job. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

To complete this task, you will need the following tools: a 13 mm socket, a T40 Torx key, and screwdrivers.

Under the dashboard in the car, release the latch and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the clutch pedal start sensor.

Press the retainer and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the clutch pedal end-of-stroke sensor.

Pry off the retainer.

Remove the tip of the clutch master cylinder rod from the pedal shaft.

Rotate the clutch pedal start sensor by 90˚

Remove the sensor from the hole in the pedal bracket Clutch.

Also remove the clutch pedal end-of-stroke sensor.

Unscrew the clutch pedal axle mounting nut, holding the axle from turning with a screwdriver.

Remove the plastic bushings from the holes.

Installing the Clutch Pedal.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Lubricate the pedal axle.

Tighten the clutch pedal assembly plate mounting nuts to a torque of 21 Nm.

Be sure to pull the sensor rods to adjust the adjustment clearance.

The clutch pedal travel sensors automatically adjust depending on the pedal position.

Replacing the Clutch Pedal Renault Megane

Install the sensors in their sockets (Fig. 13).

Turn the sensor a quarter turn clockwise.

Connect the clutch pedal sensor connectors.

Removing, Adjusting, and Installing the Clutch Pedal Sensor

Handle the clutch pedal sensor with care.

Move the piston rod only when adjusting the X dimension (see Fig. 14).

Disconnect the clutch pedal travel sensor connector.

Turn the clutch pedal travel sensor 1/4 turn counterclockwise.

Remove the clutch pedal travel sensor.

The clutch pedal travel sensor must be replaced if the piston rod has separated from the sensor or if more than three adjustments to the X dimension are required.

Measure the X dimension of the piston rod protrusion.

If the X dimension is less than 17 mm, adjust it by gently pulling on the end Rod.

Dimension X must be between 17 mm (minimum) and 18 mm (maximum).

Press the clutch pedal by hand.

Install the clutch pedal travel sensor on the pedal assembly.

Lock the clutch pedal travel sensor by turning it 1/4 turn clockwise.

When returning the clutch pedal to its original position, support it with your hand.

The clutch pedal travel sensor adjusts automatically depending on the pedal position.

During automatic adjustment, you will hear a clicking sound as it passes through the detent positions.

Connect the connector.
