With the minimum permissible thickness of the brake pad friction linings, the size measured by the diameter of the pads installed in the brake mechanism with the clearance adjuster set to its original condition is 179.4 mm for a vehicle with a 1.4 L engine and 202.45 mm for a vehicle with a 1.6 L engine.

Replace the pads in the following cases:

  • - the thickness of the friction linings is less than the permissible value (the size measured by the diameter of the pads installed in the brake mechanism is less than specified);
  • - the surface of the linings is oily;
  • - the friction lining is not firmly attached to the base;
  • - the linings have deep grooves and chips.

Do not use Gasoline, diesel fuel, or other mineral solvents for cleaning brakes.

Replace the brake pads on both rear wheels at the same time.

You will need: a wheel lug wrench, pliers or a flat-blade screwdriver, and adjustable pliers.

Engage the vehicle in first gear and chock the front wheels.

Make sure the parking brake lever is fully depressed (the vehicle is released).

Remove the wheel and support the vehicle.

If the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir is at or near the "MAX" mark, pump out some of the fluid from the reservoir. Otherwise, it may spill out when replacing the pads.

Use pliers to remove the bent end of the upper tension spring from the rear brake pad...

Be careful when using pliers or a screwdriver.

We recommend using special pliers for removing tension springs.

Renault Logan Rear Brake Pad Replacement

Move the rear brake pad away from the backing plate, disconnect the release lever from the parking brake cable by squeezing its spring with pliers, and remove the pad.

Remove the front brake pad pressure spring and support post in the same way as you did for the rear brake pad, and remove the front brake pad.

Immediately after removing the pads, secure the working cylinder pistons in any way possible (for example, tie them with a rubber band or wire), otherwise The pistons may be pushed out of the cylinder by the expansion spring, and brake fluid will leak from the hydraulic system.

Clean and inspect the brake components.

Replace any deformed or heavily corroded components. Replace springs that are severely stretched, have lost their elasticity, or are bent.

Apply high-melting brake grease to the areas where the front and rear brake pads rub against the brake shield.

Lubricate the threads Lubricate the spacer bar rod A with high-melting brake grease and screw nut B onto it completely, but do not tighten it.

Release the slave cylinder pistons from the locking device, use adjustable pliers to compress the slave cylinder pistons, and install the brake pads in the reverse order of removal.

Note that pressing the pistons into the cylinder increases the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Pump out the fluid if necessary.

Install the brake drum (see "Replacing the Renault Logan Brake Drum").

Adjust the clearance between the brake pads and the drum by pressing the brake pedal several times.

You should hear a clicking sound from the adjuster with each press. If the clicking stops, the clearance is set.

Reinstall the wheel. Check that it rotates easily.

Replace the brake pads of the other wheel in the same way.

After installing the brake pads, adjust the parking brake system.

Replacing the rear brake pads on a Renault Logan
Rear wheel brake mechanism components: 1 - pad pressure spring; 2 - spring cup; 3 - rear pad; 4 - parking brake actuator lever; 5 - upper tension spring; 6 — Expander; 7 — Lower Tension Spring; 8 — Adjuster Spring; 9 — Adjuster Lever; 10 — Front Shoe; 11 — Support Column

We recommend replacing the Expander Bars and Adjusters together with each brake pad replacement.

Whenever disassembling the brake mechanism, replace the pressure springs, spring cups, and support Columns with new ones.

The Expander Bar and Adjuster components of the left brake mechanism are not interchangeable with the corresponding components of the right brake mechanism; do not mix them up!

The front 1 and rear 2 brake pads of the rear brake mechanism are different in design. In addition, the brake pads are distinguished as left and right.
