Removal of the Renault Megane II electronic control unit

The engine electronic control unit is located under the bonnet on the left side of the engine, behind the battery.

Disconnecting the battery negative terminal — Fig. 1. Using a 10 mm spanner, disconnect the battery negative terminal

Removing the positive terminal cover — Fig. 2. Remove the positive terminal cover

Disconnecting the battery positive terminal — Fig. 3. Using a 10 mm spanner, disconnect the battery positive terminal

Removing the battery mounting bracket — Fig. 4. Using a TORX T-40 key, remove the battery mounting bracket

Removing the battery — Fig. 5. Move the wiring aside and remove the battery

Removing the plastic wiring harness holder — Fig. 6. Remove the plastic wiring harness holder. Move it slightly upwards and to the side

Removing the controller bracket bolt — Fig. 7. Remove the bolt securing the controller bracket to the battery tray

Removing the upper unit mounting bolt — Fig. 8. Remove the upper mounting bolt securing the unit to the air filter housing

Removing the control unit — Fig. 9. Pull the control unit out to the length of the wiring

Disconnecting the controller connector — Fig. 10. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, press on the connector clip and lift the holder to disconnect the connector and remove it. Disconnect the other two connectors in the same way

Removing the control unit with bracket — Fig. 11. Remove the control unit together with the bracket

Removing the controller mounting bolts — Fig. 12. Remove the four bolts securing the controller to the bracket

Install the ECU in the reverse order.
