Remove the intake silencer mounting bolt (Fig. 1).

Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold (Fig. 2).

Be careful not to damage the vacuum bleed pipe on the intake manifold. If the hose is broken, replace the manifold.

Remove the two air filter cover bolts.

Remove the filter element.

Install the parts in reverse order

Tighten the battery cover bolts to the specified torque

Removing and installing the air filter housing (K4J engine)

Remove the upper engine covers.

Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminals.

Remove the air intake grille.

Remove the front shield soundproofing material fasteners and the front shield soundproofing material

Unscrew the intake silencer mounting bolt.

Remove the intake silencer.

Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold.

Remove the two air filter cover mounting bolts.

Remove the filter element.

Be careful not to damage the vacuum bleed pipe on the intake manifold.

If the pipe is broken, replace the manifold.

Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector and remove the holder

Unscrew the air distribution block mounting bolts

Remove the air filter housing.

Installation

Replace the throttle body gasket Lubricate the flaps each time they are removed, using grease to facilitate installation.

Also replace the plastic rivets and retainers after each removal.

Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.

Tighten the air cleaner assembly mounting bolts to the specified torque (9 Nm).

Connect the battery cables, starting with the positive terminal.

Tighten the battery cover mounting bolts to the specified torque (4 Nm).

Replacing the Air Filter (K4M Engine)

Remove the upper engine covers.

Disconnect the battery cables, starting with the negative terminal.

Remove the battery.

Disconnect the fuel injection ECU connectors.

Remove the battery shelf mounting bolts and remove the wiring harness mounting flange

Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the battery shelf.

Remove the battery shelf.

Remove the injection control unit along with the bracket.

Remove the air intake pipe and air ducts.

Remove the air filter housing.

Installation

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Tighten the battery tray mounting bolts (21 Nm).

Connect the battery terminals, starting with the positive terminal.

Tighten the battery cover mounting bolts to the specified torque (4 Nm).
