We remove the gearbox for repair, as well as when replacing clutch discs and when removing the engine
We prepare the car for the task and install it on a lift or a viewing ditch
Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery
Drain the oil from the gearbox and transfer case
Remove the transfer case
Install the jack under the clutch housing
Disconnect the wire ends from the reverse light switch
It is best to remove the reverse light switch to avoid damaging its terminals
Use the 27 key to unscrew the switch
And remove the switch with the gasket
We unscrew the nuts and remove the bolts of the rear supports of the power plant (see How to replace the supports of the power plant UAZ-3151, -31512, -31514, -31519)
We unscrew the four bolts of the gear lever support with a 12 key
Remove the lever with the spring
We unscrew the four bolts securing the lining of the cover of the clutch release fork with a 10 key and remove the fork
With a 19 key, we unscrew the three gearbox mounting nuts (two on the right and the lower left), while the lower left nut rests against the gearbox crankcase and cannot be removed from the stud
Using a jack, we raise the power plant by the clutch housing
Remove the base plate
Using a 19 wrench, unscrew the left upper nut of the box
We shift the gearbox back, finally unscrew the fastening nuts on the left side
Remove the gearbox
Install the gearbox in reverse order and fill the gearbox and transfer case with oil
