The outer tip of the tie rod is replaced when the backlash of the thrust ball joint is detected or the hinge cover is damaged

Usually this defect is detected with a large free-running steering wheel and a characteristic knock.

You can check the backlash by shaking the wheel with both hands in a horizontal plane, before that you need to lift the car on a jack or a lift.

To replace the tie rod tip, remove the wheel from the side of the replaced tie rod tip and fix the car on the stand.

Turn the steering wheel all the way to the side opposite to the tip being removed.

With the key on 21, we loosen the tightening of the lock nut, holding the tip with the key on 19 for the bald patches

We clean the Torx key hole in the end of the finger with a metal brush from dirt.

Holding the finger with the Torx T-30 key, we unscrew the nut for attaching the finger of the tip hinge to the lever of the rotary knuckle with the key for 16.

Using a puller, we press the hinge pin out of the lever hole.

In the absence of a puller, we unscrew the finger nut not completely.

Insert the mounting blade between the tip of the steering rod and the steering knuckle lever

Pressing the tip of the steering rod down with the mounting blade, and striking the end of the rotary knuckle lever with a hammer, we press the finger out of the hole in the lever

Having completely unscrewed the nut of the finger attachment, we remove the ball joint finger from the hole in the lever.

Before unscrewing the tip, we mark its position relative to the steering rod with a marker, or when turning away, we count the number of revolutions by which the tip was wrapped.

This will approximately preserve the previous adjustment of the wheel convergence.

With the key on 19, we unscrew the tip, keeping the steering rod from turning by the hexagon with the key on 13

We remove the tip of the steering rod.

We install the steering rod tip in reverse order.

We wind it on the threaded end of the steering rod for the same number of revolutions (or to the marked mark), to which it was screwed before removal.

Tighten the lock nut of the tip and the nut of the ball joint pin with moments:

- nut for fixing the ball pin of the thrust tip 37 Nm;

- lock nut of the steering rod tip 50 Nm.

After the installation of the tie rod tip is completed, it is necessary to check and, if necessary, adjust the convergence of the wheels on a special stand — at the service station.

To adjust the convergence of the wheel, it is necessary to loosen the tightening of the tip lock nut and rotate the steering rod by the hexagon with the SNA 1Z key, holding the tip with the key at 19.

After adjusting the convergence, it is necessary to tighten the tip lock nut with a torque of 50 Nm.

Replacing the steering gear cover

If the steering gear cover has deteriorated, it must be replaced.

Removing the steering rod

We install the new steering rod in reverse order.

Before installation, we apply a small amount of fixing sealant to the threaded part of the steering rod ball joint.

We check and, if necessary, adjust the angle of convergence of the wheels.
