The main faults that require clutch removal and disassembly are as follows:

  • - increased (compared to normal) noise when engaging and disengaging the clutch;
  • - jerking during clutch operation;
  • - incomplete clutch engagement (clutch "slipping");
  • - incomplete clutch disengagement (clutch "drags").

If a clutch fails, we recommend replacing all its components at the same time (driven and driving discs, clutch release bearing), as replacing the clutch is labor-intensive, and the service life of undamaged clutch components has already been reduced, and if they are reinstalled, the clutch may need to be replaced again after a relatively short mileage.

You will need: an 11 mm wrench (a socket head is more convenient), Screwdriver,

- A drift for centering the driven disk (can be made from the gearbox input shaft by removing the gears).

A commercially available drift for front-wheel drive VAZ vehicles will also work.

Remove the gearbox (See "Replacing the Renault Logan Gearbox"),

If you are installing the old pressure plate, mark the relative positions of the pressure plate housing and the flywheel using any means (e.g. paint) so that you can install the pressure plate in the same position (to maintain balance).

Holding the flywheel with a screwdriver (or tire iron) to prevent it from turning, remove the six bolts securing the clutch pressure plate housing to the flywheel.

Loosen the bolts evenly: one turn of the wrench per bolt, moving from bolt to bolt diameter.

Remove the pressure and driven plates of the clutch from the flywheel, holding the driven plate.

Inspect the driven plate of the clutch.

Cracks on the driven plate components are not allowed.

Check Friction lining wear.

If the rivet heads are recessed less than 0.2 mm, the friction lining surface is oily, or the rivet joints are loose, the driven disc must be replaced.

If the driven disc linings are oily, check the condition of the transmission input shaft seal. It may need to be replaced.

Check the secure fit of the damper springs in the driven disc hub sockets by attempting to move them by hand.

If the springs move easily in their sockets or are broken, replace the disc.

Check the runout of the driven disc if warping is detected during visual inspection. If the runout exceeds 0.5 mm, replace the disc.

Inspect the friction surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate, checking for deep scratches, nicks, obvious signs of wear, and overheating. Replace defective components.

If the riveted connections "A" of the housing and pressure plate components are loose, replace the pressure plate assembly.

Inspect the condition of the diaphragm spring "B" of the pressure plate by visual inspection.

Cracks in the diaphragm spring are not permitted.

The contact points between the spring petals and the clutch release bearing must be in the same plane and show no obvious signs of wear (wear should not exceed 0.8 mm). Otherwise, replace the pressure plate assembly.

Inspect the connecting links "A" of the housing and disc.

If the links are deformed or broken, replace the pressure plate assembly.

Inspect the condition of the support rings "B" of the pressure spring. The rings should not have cracks or signs of wear.

Otherwise, replace the pressure plate assembly.

Renault: Removing and Installing the Renault Logan Clutch

Before installing the clutch, check that the driven disk moves easily along the splines of the transmission input shaft.

If necessary, eliminate the causes of seizure or replace defective components.

Apply high-melting grease to the splines of the driven disk hub.

Renault: Removing and Installing the Renault Logan Clutch

When installing the clutch, first install the driven disk using a mandrel.

Install the driven disk so that the protruding part of the disk hub (shown by the arrow) is directed towards the diaphragm spring of the clutch housing.

Then install the pressure plate housing on the three centering pins and screw in the bolts securing the housing to the flywheel.

Tighten the bolts evenly, one turn of the wrench each, Alternately tighten each bolt according to its diameter. Tightening torque for the bolts is 12 Nm (1.2 kgf-m).

Remove the mandrel and install the gearbox.

Install the lower end of the clutch release cable onto the gearbox and adjust the length of the cable's threaded end.
