Shock absorber noise (diagnostics) Renault Megan 2
Each replacement of the shock absorber must be justified by the results of the following diagnostics
The noises heard when leaving the sidewalk ("cannon shot") are related to the characteristics of the shock absorber and are not a sign of malfunction.
Faintly audible, "whispering" sounds (the normal sound of fluid in the shock absorber) or cracking (micro-displacement of the clamped brake pads of the rear wheels), manifested when passengers get on and off the car, cannot be associated with shock absorbers.
Before replacing the shock absorber due to "squelching", make sure that the noise does not come from the engine suspension supports, the hinges of the stabilizer bars (and other ball joints) or the silent blocks of the shock absorber cups, and also check the tightening of the cup fasteners and shock absorber rods.
Before the road test, check the tightening of all fasteners and hinges of the front and rear suspensions, shock absorbers, stabilizer bars, ball joints and bearing clearances.
The scheme of actions for the "squelching" of the shock absorber is shown in Fig. 1.
For the scheme of actions in case of clicks and knocks of the shock absorber, see Fig. 2.
The scheme of actions in case of shock absorber creaking is shown in Fig. 3.
