Replacing the front drive shaft outer joint boot (F4R engine)

Remove the drive shaft on the corresponding side

Remove the drive shaft boots.

Fig. Pressing out large vibration damper A using a press

Press out large vibration damper "A" using a press, using a puller as a support (Fig. 1).

Use side cutters to cut the large and small clamps, being careful not to damage the grooves in the hinge housing and drive shaft (Fig. 2).

Cut the boot along its entire length.

Remove as much grease as possible (Fig. 3).

Make sure to strike the front end of the cage, not the ball races.

Using a hammer and punch, strike the cage several times to separate the ball joint housing from the drive shaft (Fig. 4).

Remove the retaining ring and protective boot.

Installation

Place the cover on the driveshaft from the gearbox side.

Do not use solvents to clean the hinge components.

Fig. Pressing the large-vibration damper onto the wheel drive shaft

Using a press, press the large-vibration damper onto the wheel drive shaft until the dimension L = 221 mm + 3 (Fig. 5) is achieved.

Fig. Installing the boot: 1 - boot, 2 - retaining ring

To facilitate installation of the protective boot, lightly lubricate the wheel drive shaft (Fig. 6).

Install on the drive shaft:

  • – small diameter clamp;
  • – protective boot;
  • – new retaining ring.

Tapping the joint housing with a brass drift, insert the collar until the retaining ring snaps behind the collar.

The retaining ring must be replaced every time the joint housing is removed.

Fill the boot and outer joint housing with grease in equal quantities.

Locate the edges of the protective boot in the grooves of the joint housing and drive shaft shaft.

Pump the CV joint manually to check that the boot bands are installed correctly.

Insert a rounded-edged rod between the boot and the CV joint housing to adjust the amount of air inside the joint.

Install the large clamp.

Tighten the small and large clamps onto the boot until they snap into place using the clamping tool (Tav1168) (Fig. 7).

Clamp the clamps.

Insert spacer "A" into the lower notches and squeeze the pliers until they stop.

The pre-clamped clamp can slide along the protective boot. Position it in the desired location.

Install the drive shaft on the appropriate side.

Removing and installing the outer joint boot of the front wheel drive shaft (K4J, K4M engines)

Remove the drive shaft on the appropriate side.

Remove the drive shaft boots.

Cut or saw off the two clamps without damaging the groove in the joint housing.

Cut the boot.

Remove as much grease as possible.

Fig. Removing the Tripod Joint Cover

Remove the tripod joint cover (Fig. 9).

There is no locking tab on the joint body; it can be removed without force.

Do not remove the rollers from the journals, as the rollers and needles are worn in place and should not be interchanged.

Remove the retaining ring (Fig. 10).

Fig. Pressing the Tripod Joint

Using a press, press the tripod joint, using a puller as a stop (Fig. 11).

Mark the position of the tripod joint before removal.

Installation

To facilitate installation of the protective boot, lightly grease the drive shaft.

Lubricate the joint housing.

Place the boot on the drive shaft.

Install the small diameter collar of the boot into the groove of the drive shaft.

Insert the tripod joint, maintaining the position marked during removal.

fig. Assembling the shaft

Install the retaining ring (Fig. 12).

Install the joint housing.

Fill the boot and joint housing equally with the required amount of grease.

Locate the protruding belts of the boot in the grooves.

Fig. Adjusting the amount of air inside the joint

Insert a rod with rounded edges between the boot and the joint housing to adjust the amount of air inside the joint (Fig. 13).

Filling the Joints with Grease

Apply moiykqte br2 grease to the splines of the inner joint shank.

Apply frenbloc adhesive to the brake mounting bolt.

Mobil CVJ 825 Black Star or Movil EXF 57C grease is applied to the RC 462, RC 463, RC 465, EBJ 82, EBJ 92, EBJ95, and TJ 92 joints.
