We remove the front wheel drives to replace the drive covers.
We also remove it when replacing the drive seals, when dismantling the gearbox, in case of malfunctions.
We are preparing the car for the job.
We install the car on an observation pit or a lift.
Removing the engine protection (article - How to remove the protection and mudguards of the Renault Sandero engine)
In order to remove the left front wheel drive, drain the oil from the gearbox for this:
We clean the gearbox drain hole from below.
Under the box we substitute a container for draining about 4 liters.
We take a four-sided key for 8 and turn off the drain plug.
Drain the oil into a container.
After that, we tighten the drain plug.
Unscrew the bearing nut of the front wheel hub.
We remove the wheel.
Turn the nut of the coupling bolt (fig.4) of the terminal connection of the rotary knuckle and the ball bearing finger with the head on 16, holding the bolt with a key of the same size.
We take out the bolt or knock it out with a hammer made of soft metal.
With a powerful slotted screwdriver or mounting blade, we unclench the connection of the rotary knuckle and the ball bearing finger.
We pry the terminal connection with a screwdriver
At the same time, shaking the steering knuckle from side to side behind the brake disc, we remove the ball bearing finger from the hole of the steering knuckle.
We pull the steering knuckle with the shock-absorbing strut to the side and remove the spline shank of the outer hinge housing from the wheel hub.
We clean the holder and the landing surface of the gearbox crankcase from dirt, so that when removing the drive, dirt does not get inside the gearbox.
With the head on 1Z, we unscrew the three bolts securing the cover holder of the inner hinge to the gearbox crankcase.
Remove the left wheel drive.
When installing the drive, carefully insert the three-stud rollers into the grooves of the inner hinge housing and attach the hinge cover holder to the gearbox housing.
Further installation of the drive is carried out in reverse order.
During installation, do not apply force to the drive along its axis, directed in the direction opposite to the gearbox, as this may cause the three-stud rollers to exit from the grooves of the inner hinge housing and damage the needle bearings of the rollers.
At the slightest suspicion of a three-stud exit from the grooves of the inner hinge housing, it is necessary to unscrew the bolts securing the inner hinge cover holder and, after making sure that the needle roller bearings are in normal condition, repeat the installation of the drive.
After installing the left wheel drive, we pour oil into the gearbox.
When removing the right wheel drive, you do not need to drain the oil from the gearbox.
Unscrewing the hub bearing mounting nut and disconnecting the ball bearing from the knuckle, we remove the spline shank of the outer drive joint housing from the wheel hub, as shown above.
We shift the tip of the housing of the inner hinge of the right wheel drive from the spline shaft of the semi-axial gear differential
We remove the right wheel drive.
Install the right wheel drive in reverse order.
Connection moments during the installation of drives:
- bolt fastening of the cover holder of the inner hinge of the left wheel drive to the crankcase of the box = 25 Nm;
- drain plug = 20 Nm;
- nut of the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the rotary knuckle and ball bearing pin = 62 Nm;
- front wheel hub bearing nut = 280 Nm;
- wheel mounting bolt = 105 Nm.
