We replace the car's rear suspension components if any defects are discovered during a technical inspection.

Replacing the rear hub bearing.

We replace the rear hub bearing if any play is detected during a technical inspection.

You will need: a snap ring plier, a hammer, and a 49 mm diameter drift.

Rear wheel bearing assembly: 1 - journal; 2 - brake drum; 3 - rear wheel bearing; 4 - bearing retaining ring; 5 - nut; 6 - Cap

Remove the brake drum (see "Replacing the Renault Logan Brake Drum")

Press out the old bearing with a drift.

Clean the inside of the hub and lubricate it with Litol-24 bearing grease or its imported equivalent.

Press the new bearing into the hub with a drift.

When pressing in the bearing, apply force to the outer race of the bearing; otherwise, the bearing may be damaged.

Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

Hub mounting nut Tighten to a torque of 17 Nm (17.5 kgf-m).

Replacing the rear suspension arm silent blocks

With some skill, the silent blocks can be replaced directly on the car by unscrewing the bolts securing the beam brackets to the body and then removing the mounting brackets from the beam, but it is more convenient to perform this work with the rear suspension beam removed.

It is most convenient to replace the silent blocks with a special tool (puller), but the work can also be done with improvised means.

You will need a silent block puller or a mandrel.

Mark or remember the location of the bushing in the control arm so you can install the new bushing in the same position.

Renault: Replacing the Rear Suspension Arm Bushings on a Renault Logan

Place the beam in a vice and press out the bushing using a mandrel of the appropriate diameter or a puller.

If the bushing cannot be pressed out, cut it with a hacksaw.

The fit of the sawed bushing in the control arm eye will be significantly weakened.

Remove the bushing from the beam eye.

Replace the second bushing in the same manner.

Install the rear suspension beam on the vehicle.

Final tighten the beam mounting bolts to the brackets with the vehicle on the ground.

Replacing the Rear Suspension Springs

Replace the spring if it is mechanically damaged or has significantly settled.

Signs of settlement:

  • - deterioration in ride smoothness, frequent suspension breakdowns;
  • - visible distortion of the rear of the vehicle or a significant difference in the height of the front and rear parts, which arose during operation;
  • - strength but there are clear signs of spring coil impact.

Replace the springs (left and right) in pairs.

You will need a spring compressor.

Place wheel chocks ("shoes") under the front wheels and raise the rear suspension beam.

Remove the lower spring shim from its mounting on the rear suspension beam.

Replace any damaged spring shims with new ones.

Install the spring and shims on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal.

Replace the second spring in the same manner.

Replacing the rear suspension shock absorber

Before raising the rear of the vehicle, engage first gear and chock the front wheels.

After raising the rear, place secure supports near the jack.

Do not place supports under the rear suspension beam, as the suspension must be unloaded.

Rear shock absorber: 1 - nut; 2 - washer; 3 - upper piston rod cushion; 4 - spacer sleeve; 5 - lower piston rod cushion; 6 - compression buffer; 7 - boot; 8 - protective cap; 9 - shock absorber

Replace the shock absorbers (left and right) in pairs.

Do not remove both shock absorbers at the same time with the rear of the car raised, as lowering the rear suspension beam below Failure to comply with the permissible limit may result in damage to the brake system lines and hoses.

Replace any damaged shock absorber parts.

Install the shock absorber vertically and pump the piston rod up and down several times until it stops.

Make sure it moves without any dips, binding, or knocking.

If not, replace the shock absorber.

Also, replace it if the threads at the top of the piston rod are damaged.

Reinstall the shock absorber in the reverse order of removal.

Finally tighten the upper shock absorber nut and lower shock absorber bolt with the vehicle on the ground.

After lowering the vehicle to the ground, vigorously rock it several times.

Tighten the lower shock absorber mount bolt to 105 N⋅m (10.5 kgf⋅m) and the upper shock absorber mount nut to 14 N⋅m (1.4 kgf⋅m).

Replace the second shock absorber in the same manner.
