The bearing has a built-in signal disc for the wheel speed sensor. Take care not to damage the disc (if present) when installing the bearing.

Removal

Remove the steering knuckle.

Replacing the Renault wheel hub bearing

Fig. Removing the hub from the bearing: 1 - puller

Using a press, remove the hub from the bearing, installing a mandrel with an outside diameter of 36.5 mm on it, and a puller under the steering knuckle (Fig. 1).

Replacing the Renault wheel hub bearing

Fig. Pressing the hub out of the steering knuckle

You can, of course, clamp the steering knuckle in a vice and knock out the hub with a suitable mandrel (Fig. 2)

Fig. Removing the inner bearing race from the hub: 1 - puller

Press the inner bearing race out of the hub using a puller.

Install the puller jaws into the groove of the hub bearing inner race and remove it.

Remove the bearing retaining ring.

Fig. Removing the outer bearing ring

Remove the outer bearing ring by placing a piece of pipe with an outside diameter of 65 mm against the inner ring (Fig. 4).

Do not use the sensor holder (if installed) as a support.

You can use a puller (Fig. 5)

Installation

Do not move the vehicle without the drive shafts installed in the wheel hubs and tightened to the specified torque, as this may damage the wheel hub bearings and the ABS signal disc.

Required Check the condition of the hub surface and the steering knuckle bore before installing the bearing. Replace the damaged steering knuckle.

Clean:

  • – inner and outer surfaces of the new bearing that contact the steering knuckle and hub;
  • – surfaces of the steering knuckle that contact the new bearing;
  • – surfaces of the hub that contact the new bearing.

Install the sensor holder.

Fig. Installing the wheel speed sensor bracket

If the vehicle is equipped with a wheel speed sensor, position the sensor bracket at an angle of X - 35° ±5° from the vertical axis of the steering knuckle: this position corresponds to the center of the mounting seat (Fig. 4).

Replacing the Renault wheel hub bearing

Fig. Primary Bearing Press-In

To press the bearing, install a 70 mm outside diameter mandrel onto the outer ring (Fig. 7).

To avoid damaging the bearing, do not lean on the inner ring, as the bearing press-in force is very high.

Install the bearing retaining ring.

Fig. Secondary bearing press-in

To press-in the bearing, install a 50 mm outer diameter mandrel onto the inner race (Fig. 8).

Install the steering knuckle assembly with the hub and bearing onto the vehicle.

Tighten to the specified torque:

  • – suspension arm ball joint mounting bolt (62 Nm);
  • – tie rod end ball joint pin retaining nut (37 Nm);
  • – hub nut (280 Nm);
  • – shock absorber strut to steering knuckle retaining bolts (105 Nm);
  • – brake disc retaining screws (140 Nm);
  • – shoe guide retaining bolt (105 Nm);
  • – wheel retaining bolts (110 Nm).
