Displaying fault codes

To display fault codes, turn off the engine, turn the ignition switch to the “I” position and turn on the diagnostic mode with the diagnostic test switch.

If there are no active faults, the stop and warning lamps remain on but do not flash.

But if active fault codes are present, then the ECU starts to display fault codes.

Before the fault code is displayed, the warning lamp turns on, after it is turned off, the computer displays (blinks) the number of the active fault code with the stop lamp (short pauses indicate the end of the character).

When the warning lamp turns on again, the stop lamp starts displaying (flashing) the next number of active fault codes (the function of separating the next fault code from the previous one).

The ECU continues to flash the DTC until the user uses the diagnostic switch to toggle the DTC to the next or previous one.

The control system uses three- and four-digit trouble codes.

Diagnostic mode remains active until the diagnostic switch is turned off or the engine is turned on.

In the previous article, tables of fault codes were discussed (see the beginning of the article - Cummins ISF3.8 Engine Diagnostics)

This article continues with code tables:
