The electronic control unit (ECU) for the electric power steering (EPS) system is installed in the engine compartment under the brake master cylinder.
The electronic control unit is connected by electrical wires to all sensors of the system
The electric power steering control unit determines the direction and value of the additional effort depending on the vehicle speed and signals from the torque sensor mounted on the steering column shaft
The control unit is replaceable in case of failure
We prepare the car and remove the battery and the air filter mounting shelf
Raise the wire block retainer and disconnect the block from the steering control unit
Press the lock of the second block and disconnect the block of wires from the block
In the same way, disconnect the third block of wires from the connector of the steering control unit
Push the clamp of the wire block retainer and fully lower the clamp of the retainer down
And disconnect the block from the electric power steering control unit
We squeeze the wire block retainer with pliers, remove the retainer from the hole in the bracket and remove the retainer with the wire from the control unit
We bite the wire clamp to the control unit bracket
We unscrew the two nuts and unscrew one bolt securing the steering control unit bracket to the body and remove the control unit
The arrows show the location of the mounting of the steering control unit bracket to the body
We unscrew the two bolts of the upper and two bolts of the lower fastening of the control unit to the bracket
Remove the steering control unit from the bracket
Pay attention to the markings on the control unit. To replace, you need to purchase the same
Install the control unit and all parts in reverse order
Replacing the torque sensor
To replace the sensor:
- - remove the engine crankcase protection;
- - disconnect the negative wire from the battery;
- - remove the subframe of the front suspension assembly with the steering gear, as indicated in the article "removing the subframe"
We unscrew the three bolts securing the torque sensor and remove the sensor from the steering gear
Install the sensor in reverse order
