We remove the steering wheel to replace it, as well as when removing the steering column switches, steering column or instrument panel
We work on a flat area. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Set the front wheels of the car to the straight ahead position.
Remove the driver's airbag.
The airbag is attached to the steering wheel with two plastic hooks that engage with two spring clips on the steering wheel (shown with the airbag removed)
To remove the airbag from the back of the steering wheel, insert two screwdrivers into the holes on the steering wheel
We press the two spring clips with screwdrivers (shown with the pillow removed) and, pulling the pillow towards you, disengage the hooks of the pillow from engagement with the clips.
Remove the pillow from the steering wheel
Raise the wire block retainer
Disconnect the block from the airbag connector
Remove the airbag.
The removed airbag should be stored in a place protected from moisture and excessive heat, laying it with the pad facing up.
Using the Torx t-50 wrench, unscrew the steering wheel mounting screw a few turns.
We do not unscrew the screw to the end, so that when removing the steering wheel we do not get injured.
Swinging, we pull the steering wheel towards us and remove it from the splines of the shaft.
Completely unscrew the steering wheel screw
After unscrewing the steering wheel mounting screw, it is advisable to mark the position of the steering wheel relative to the steering column shaft, for example, with a marker.
This will make installation easier.
Carefully pull the driver's airbag harness through the hole in the steering wheel.
Remove the steering wheel from the shaft.
Install the steering wheel in reverse order.
In this case, the groove on the steering wheel should be aligned with the protrusion on the splined tip of the steering column shaft.
