We remove the front suspension arms for replacement or repair.

Damage on the lever can be:

  • - deformation of the lever itself;
  • - ball joint wear;
  • - wear of silent blocks.

The work to remove the left and right front arm is identical.

Removing the front suspension arm: 1 - front suspension subframe; 2 - a nut of a back bolt of fastening of the lever to a stretcher; 3 - front suspension arm; 4 - bar of the anti-roll bar; 5 - anti-roll bar; 6 - a nut of a bolt of fastening of a rack of the stabilizer; 7 - a nut of a bolt of fastening of a spherical support to a rotary fist; 8 - rotary fist; 9 - ball joint

The operations to remove the lever must be carried out when hanging the front of the car or when the car is fully raised on a lift.

When hanging one wheel, the anti-roll bar will create a load and interfere with the dismantling of the arm.

To remove the lever, remove the wheel.

Disconnect the stabilizer bar mount as described above

Remove the engine protection from below.

With a 16 head, we unscrew the nut of the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the steering knuckle and the ball joint pin, holding the bolt with a wrench of the same size.

With a head of 18, we unscrew the nut of the rear lever mounting bolt, holding the bolt with a spanner wrench of the same size.

Remove the bolt or knock it out with a soft metal mandrel.

Similarly, we unscrew the nut of the bolt of the rear fastening of the lever and remove the bolt.

Remove the suspension arm ki.

Install the lever in reverse order.

The nuts of the bolts securing the lever to the subframe are finally tightened.

Tightening torques for fasteners of assembly units during installation:

  • - Nut of the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the steering knuckle and ball joint pin 62 Nm
  • - Nut of the suspension arm-to-subframe bolt 105 Nm
  • - Nut fastening the subframe bracket to the bolt of the front suspension arm 62 Nm
  • - Bolt for fastening the subframe bracket to the body 21 Nm
  • - Nut of the screw securing the anti-roll bar to the suspension arm 14 Nm
  • - Front wheel bearing nut 280 Nm
  • - Wheel bolt 105 Nm

How to replace the front ball joint

The cause of possible front suspension knocks may be ball joints.

A defective joint can be identified by touch by the play of the ball pin. We replace such a hinge.

Check the condition of the mudguards of the hinges. Hinges with torn covers are replaced as an assembly.

On the new ball joint, turn or deflect the ball pin in different directions. Backlash, easy finger movement or strong sticking are unacceptable.

Preparing the car for work.

We install the car on a viewing hole or a lift.

Using a powerful screwdriver, we pry the support body under the shoulder (Figure 1)

Leaning on the edge of the lever, we press the ball joint out of the hole in the lever.

We inspect the eye of the lever - there should be no cracks or breaks around the hole.

Before pressing in a new ball joint, carefully clean the seating surface of the lever hole from dirt and corrosion.

Putting a tool head or a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter under the lever, we insert a new ball joint into the hole.

By striking with a hammer on the mandrel (Figure 4, you can use a tool head) resting on the shoulder of the support body, we press the support into the lever hole until it stops.

Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
