Place the vehicle on a two-post lift
Disconnect the battery cables, starting with the negative terminal
Remove the engine oil pan shield.
Drain the oil from the gearbox. (See Renault Megane 2 Gearbox Oil Change)
Remove:
- – the wheel;
- – the mudguard;
- – the hub nut;
- – the tie rod end ball joint;
- – the stabilizer bar link ball joint;
- – the suspension arm ball joint.
Disconnect:
- – the wiring connector from the wheel speed sensor;
- – the wiring of the headlight beam height corrector sensors with xenon lamps (if installed).

Remove the intermediate support flange (Fig. 1).

Remove the wheel drive shaft (Fig. 2).
Replacing the Oil Seal
Tap the oil seal at its base using a punch and a small hammer so that the oil seal rotates in its seat.
Then remove it with pliers, being careful not to damage the splines of the differential side gear.
Installation

Lubricate the new oil seal with oil (Fig. 3).
Press in the new oil seal using a mandrel (Bvi1666) (index A: for the right side, index B: for the left side).
Position the wheel drive shaft in front of the differential side gear.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Tighten to the specified torque:
- – wheel mounting bolts (110 Nm);
- – the suspension arm ball joint pin retaining nut (62 Nm);
- – the tie rod end ball joint pin retaining nut (37 Nm);
- – the stabilizer bar link ball joint pin retaining nut (44 Nm);
- – the hub nut (280 Nm);
- – the nut of the drive shaft intermediate support flange (21 Nm);
- – the torque rod to engine mounting bolts (180 Nm);
- – the torque rod to subframe mounting bolts (105 Nm).
Fill the gearbox with oil.
Connect the battery.
