Place the vehicle on a two-post lift
Disconnect the battery cables, starting with the negative terminal
Remove the engine oil pan cover.
Drain the transmission fluid. (See Renault Megane 2 Gearbox Oil Change)
Remove:
- – wheel;
- – mudguard;
- – hub nut;
- – tie rod end ball joint;
- – anti-roll bar strut ball joint;
- – suspension arm ball joint.
Disconnect:
- – wheel speed sensor wiring;
- – xenon headlight range control sensor wiring (if installed).

Remove the intermediate support flange (Fig. 1).

Remove the wheel drive shaft (Fig. 2).
Replacing the Oil Seal
Tap the oil seal on the base with a punch and a small hammer until it rotates in its seat.
Then remove it with pliers, being careful not to damage the splines of the axle gear.
Installation

Lubricate the new oil seal with oil (Fig. 3).
Press in the new oil seal using a drift (Bvi1666) (index A: for the right side, index B: for the left side).
Position the wheel drive shaft in front of the axle gear.
Installation is the reverse order of removal.
Tighten to the specified torque:
- – wheel mounting bolts (110 Nm);
- – control arm ball joint pin retaining nut (62 Nm);
- – tie rod end ball joint pin retaining nut (37 Nm);
- – anti-roll bar ball joint pin retaining nut (44 Nm);
- – Hub nut (280 Nm);
- – Drive shaft intermediate support flange nut (21 Nm);
- – Torque rod to engine mounting bolts (180 Nm);
- – Torque rod to subframe mounting bolts (105 Nm).
Fill the gearbox with oil.
Connect the battery.
