How to remove the Hyundai Solaris steering column

We remove the steering column for repair or replacement

Defects occurring in the steering column that require repair of the steering column:

- damage to the intermediate shaft "B", play in the universal joint "B", damage to its terminal connections "A" with the steering shaft and steering gear shaft;

• - deformation or damage to the steering shaft "A";
• - damage to the splines of the shaft connection with the steering wheel hub "B";

- damage to the steering column adjustment mechanism.

We prepare the car and disconnect the negative battery terminal

Remove the steering column cover

Remove the contact ring, fixing it with a clamp or wire from turning

Remove the steering column switches

Remove the lower lining of the instrument panel

We press the locking bracket of the wiring harness block of the contact group

And, having pressed the latch, disconnect the wire block

We press the latches and disconnect the block of wires of the immobilizer antenna unit

Remove the block of wires of the immobilizer antenna unit from the bracket

We press the latch and disconnect the holder for the wiring harness of the steering column switches, slip ring and ignition switch

Unscrewing clamping bolt of the terminal connection of the lower cardan joint

And remove the lower hinge from the steering gear shaft

When removing the steering column, mark with a marker the relative position of the terminal connection of the cardan shaft of the intermediate shaft and the steering gear

We unscrew the bolt of the lower mounting of the steering column

We unscrew the two nuts of the upper mounting of the steering column

Remove the steering column

We unscrew the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the upper universal joint

Remove the upper joint of the intermediate shaft from the steering shaft

When removing the intermediate shaft, mark with a marker the relative position of the terminal connection of the upper cardan shaft of the intermediate shaft and the steering column shaft

Install the steering column in reverse order.

Tightening torques:

Coupling bolt for terminal connection of cardan joints - 30 Nm;

Nuts and bolts of the steering column - 15 Nm;

Steering wheel nut - 44 Nm.
