Preparing the car for work. We install the car on a lift or a viewing ditch.

To complete the task, you will need tools: wrenches for 15, 22, 24, a hex wrench for 6, a wrench for wheel nuts, a ball joint puller.

Replacing the outer tie rod end

Left handpiece is right-handed and right handpiece is left-handed.

We install wheel chocks under the rear wheels.

Put the car on the parking brake.

Loosen the front wheel nuts.

Raise and mount the front of the car on the support from the side where the work is being done.

Remove the wheel.

Loosen the tie rod end locknut

We unscrew the nut securing the hinge pin to the steering knuckle lever, keeping the finger from turning

Install the ball joint puller and press the pin out of the pivot arm boss.

Remove the pin from the pivot arm boss

We twist the tip from the steering rod, counting the number of revolutions

In the absence of a puller, the ball joint pin can be knocked out with sharp hammer blows on the end face of the pivot arm boss, striking along the axis of the lever.

Install the new tip in the reverse order, screwing it onto the tie rod for the calculated number of turns.

Tightening torque for lock nut 50 Nm, tie-rod end ball joint stud nut 37 Nm.

If necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles (article - Adjustment of the angles of installation of the front wheels GAZelle Next).

Replacing the protective cover of the steering rod

Remove the tie rod end as described above.

Screw the tip locknut off the rod

With sliding pliers, we compress the ears of the small clamp for attaching the cover and remove the clamp

With side cutters we bite the large clamp of the cover, remove the clamp

We shift from the steering gear housing and remove the protective cover from the rod

Install the cover in reverse order

Before installing the boot, apply silicone grease to the teeth of the steering rack and the working surface of the linkage joint.

Check and, if necessary, adjust the angles of the front wheels.

Having captured the hinge body with sliding pliers, we unscrew the rod tip from the steering rack

For the convenience of unscrewing the hinge, when removing the left link, turn the steering wheel to the right, and when removing the right link, respectively, to the left.

We apply an anaerobic thread locker to the threaded part of the inner hinge body.

Install the traction in the reverse order. Tightening torque of the tie rod joint to the rack 80 Nm.

Before installing the boot, apply a silicone-containing lubricant to the teeth of the steering rack and the working surface of the linkage joint.

Check and adjust the angles of the front wheels of the car.
