Replace the gearbox seals if there is an oil leak.

Oil leakage from the input shaft seal is detected by oil leakage in the area where the gearbox meets the engine.

Oil contamination of the clutch disc also indicates a leaking seal.

Oil leakage from the internal drives is associated with wear of the drive seals.

Prepare the vehicle for work.

Place the vehicle on a lift or inspection pit.

Replacing the wheel drive seals.

Drain some of the oil from the gearbox. It's best to drain the oil completely and refill with fresh oil.

The front drive shaft seals can be replaced without removing the transmission.

Replacing Manual Transmission Seals

Remove the drive shaft from the side where the seal is being replaced (see the article - "Replacing the Drive Shaft (K4J, K4M Engines)").

Remove the seal with a screwdriver.

Replacing Manual Transmission Seals

Lubricate the seal lip with transmission grease.

The seal lip should face the gearbox.

Replacing Manual Transmission Seals

Press in the new seal using a drift (Bvi1666) (index A: for the right side, index B: for the left side).

Position the wheel drive shaft in front of the axle gear.

Also replace the second seal.

Replacing the primary oil seal shaft

To replace the oil seal, you will need to remove the gearbox (see the article - "Replacing the Renault Megane 2 gearbox").

Replacing the oil seals of a manual transmission

After removing the gearbox, remove the clutch release slave cylinder from the gearbox input shaft.

Replacing the oil seals of a manual transmission

We remove the oil seal using Screwdrivers

Replacing manual transmission oil seals

Lubricate the seal lip with transmission grease and press it in using a suitable sized mandrel.

The seal lip should face inward toward the transmission.

Install the parts in reverse order.

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Tighten to the specified torque:

  • – wheel mounting bolts (110 Nm);
  • – control arm ball joint pin mounting nut (62 Nm);
  • – tie rod end ball joint pin retaining nut (37 Nm);
  • – stabilizer bar ball joint pin retaining nut (44 Nm);
  • – hub nut (280 Nm);
  • – drive shaft intermediate support flange nut (21 Nm);
  • – torque rod to engine retaining bolts (180 Nm);
  • – torque rod to subframe retaining bolts (105 Nm).

Fill the gearbox with oil.

Connect the battery.
