We remove the cylinder head to replace the gasket under the cylinder head and for repair
On the K7J and K7M engine
Relieve the pressure in the fuel system (described in the article - Checking the fuel pressure of a Renault car Sandero)
Disconnect the negative battery terminal
Draining the coolant from the engine cooling system
Remove the timing belt from the camshaft pulley (described in the article - Checking and replacing the timing belt of a Renault Sandero car)
Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold
Remove the air filter (described in the article How to replace Renault Sandero engine air filter element)
Disconnect the wire blocks from the injectors
Disconnect the wiring harness from the throttle position sensor
Disconnect the block from the absolute pressure sensor
Disconnect the wiring harness from the coolant sensor
Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor block
Disconnect the wiring harness from the idle speed sensor
Disconnect the oxygen concentration sensor harness connector
We remove the oxygen concentration sensor wiring harness from the holder on the engine
We unscrew the nut securing the spacer to the intake pipe and unscrew the bolt of its fastening connection to the cylinder block
Remove the spacer
Remove the engine harness from the holder on the rear intake pipe
Bringing out the engine wiring harness from the front
Using a screwdriver, unfasten the upper holders of the motor harness in front
Unfasten the holder at the back
Remove the harness from the front holder
Remove the harness from the rear holder
Remove the harness from the middle upper holder on the inlet pipe
Take the tourniquet to the side
Remove the end of the throttle cable from the lever
Remove the cable from the bracket hole and set it aside
Disconnect the adsorber purge hose from the inlet pipe
Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail
Disconnect the hose to the vacuum brake booster from the inlet pipe by squeezing the latches of its fastening
We loosen the clamps of the three hoses with pliers and move the clamps along the hoses
Disconnect the hoses from the thermostat pipes and the cylinder head
Remove the heater hoses from the holders on the bracket
Unscrew the ground wire bolt
Disconnecting the wire
We unscrew the bolt securing the power steering pump bracket to the block head
Remove the cylinder block cover (article - Replacing the Renault Sandero cylinder head cover gasket)
Weaken the tightening of the cylinder head bolts in the order indicated in the photo, in several stages
Finally unscrew the head mounting bolts and remove them
Retrieve the washers installed under the bolts
Bolts of different lengths, when removing, you need to remember the location of the bolts
Remove the cylinder head assembly with the intake pipe, throttle assembly and exhaust manifold
Remove the cylinder head gasket
Clean the mating surfaces of the head and block
Check the block head for warping with a feeler gauge and a ruler
We put the ruler first in the middle along, then across, and also diagonally and with a probe we check the gap between the plane of the head and the ruler.
Replace the cylinder head if the gap is more than 0.05 mm.
Install the cylinder head in reverse order
We remove oil or coolant from the threaded holes of the cylinder head that got there when the head was removed
Installing a new head gasket
Lubricate the bolts with a thin layer of engine oil
We tighten the bolts on a cold engine in the order shown in the photo in four stages:
- - the first stage - we tighten the bolts with a torque of 20 Nm, after which tighten by 100˚ ± 6˚. We are waiting for three minutes;
- - the second stage - loosen bolts 1 and 2, then tighten them again with a torque of 20 Nm and tighten by an angle of 110˚±6˚;
- - the third stage - we loosen the bolts 3, 4, 5 and 6, after which we tighten them again with a torque of 20 Nm and tighten them by an angle of 110˚±6˚
Install all parts and assemblies in reverse order

Installing the cylinder head cover
Install the air filter and fill in the coolant
Removing the cylinder head on the K4M engine
Relieve the fuel pressure in the fuel system
Disconnect the negative battery terminal
Draining the coolant from the engine cooling system
Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold
Disconnect the wiring harness pads from the injectors
Disconnect the wire blocks from the throttle position, absolute pressure, coolant temperature, intake air temperature, oxygen concentration sensors;
- - idle control;
- - ignition coils.
Remove the air filter
Remove the motor wiring harness from the holders on the engine and set it aside
Remove ignition coils
Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle assembly
Remove the cable from the receiver bracket and set it aside
Disconnect the adsorber purge hose from the inlet pipe
Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail
We unscrew the seven bolts securing the receiver to the cylinder block cover
Removing the receiver
Disconnect the hose to the vacuum brake booster from the inlet pipe by squeezing the latches of its fastening
We loosen the clamps of the three hoses, squeezing their bent antennae with pliers, move the clamps along the hoses
Disconnect the hoses from the thermostat pipes and the cylinder head
We unscrew the bolts of the power steering pump and move the pump to the side
Removing the fuel rail protection
Remove the cylinder head cover
Remove the camshafts
Unscrew the ten cylinder head bolts with a Torx E14 socket head and remove the bolts
Remove the cylinder head assembly with the exhaust manifold
Removing the gasket
Clean the mating surface of the head and block
Check the block head for warping with a feeler gauge and a ruler
We put the ruler first in the middle along, then across, and also diagonally and with a probe we check the gap between the plane of the head and the ruler.
Replace the cylinder head if the gap is more than 0.05 mm.
Install the cylinder head in reverse order
We remove oil and coolant from the threaded holes of the cylinder head bolts that got there when the head was removed.
Installing a new gasket
Replacing the bolts with new ones
Lubricate the bolts with engine oil
We tighten the bolts in the order shown in the photo in two stages:
- - the first stage (preliminary settlement) - tighten the bolts with a torque of 20 Nm;
- - the second stage - we tighten the bolts at an angle of 240˚±6˚
In the photo, an example is turned bolts to a certain angle.
Install all removed parts and assemblies in reverse order.
