Before inspection, thoroughly clean all parts of the transfer case with a brush and scraper, and then wash. Blow off the parts with a jet of compressed air.
The gearbox is mechanical, with manual shifting, it has five forward gears and one reverse gear, all forward gears are synchronized.
Before disassembling, clean the outer surface of the gearbox with a cleaner or solvent.
