The air filter is installed in the engine compartment and secured on rubber mounts.
The filter element of the air filter is paper with a large filtering surface area.
Outside air is drawn in through the air intake union located below the air filter housing.
The air then passes through the air filter element, the mass air flow sensor, the intake pipe hose and the throttle body.
After the throttle body, the air is directed into the channels of the receiver and the intake pipe, and then into the cylinder head and the cylinders.
Replacing the filter element
- Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the four screws securing the upper cover of the air filter housing.
- With your finger, move aside the yellow stop of the retainer of the wiring harness connector to the mass air flow sensor.
- Press the retainer and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the mass air flow sensor.
- Lift the upper cover of the air filter housing.
- Remove the air filter element.
- Using a vacuum cleaner, remove dust and debris from the lower air filter housing.
- Using a damp cloth, remove the dust film from the internal surfaces of the air filter housing.
- Install the new filter element so that its corrugations are parallel to the arrows inside the lower part of the air filter housing.
- Install the upper part of the air filter housing and tighten the screws. Screw tightening torque: 1.7–2.3 N·m.
Removing the air filter housing
- Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the clamp securing the air hose to the mass air flow sensor.
- Move aside the yellow stop of the retainer of the engine management system wiring connector to the mass air flow sensor.
- Press the retainer and disconnect the wiring connector from the sensor.
- Using a 10 spanner, unscrew the two bolts securing the mass air flow sensor.
- Remove the mass air flow sensor from the air filter housing.
- Using an 8 socket, unscrew the two bolts securing the front bracket of the air filter to the upper radiator frame.
- Unscrew the two bolts securing the rear bracket to the left side member of the vehicle.
- Remove the air filter together with the brackets.
- If necessary, the rubber mounts can be removed and the brackets detached.
- Install the air filter housing in the reverse order. Tightening torque of the mass air flow sensor fastening bolts: 1.7–2.3 N·m.
