It is advisable to check the oil level in the engine sump daily before a trip or during a long trip every 300-400 km

If the engine was running before checking, then stop it and wait 2-3 minutes for the oil to glass into the engine sump.

Checking and changing the oil in a Nissan Almera engine

Raise the hood and remove the oil level dipstick from the guide tube.

Wipe the dipstick with a cloth and insert it into the guide tube.

Remove the dipstick and use the edge of the oil film on it to determine the oil level in the engine sump.

K4M engine oil gauge (dipstick)

The edge of the oil film should be in the grooved area of the dipstick.

If the oil level is below the notched area on the dipstick then:

Turn the oil filler cap counterclockwise and remove it.

Using a funnel, add oil to the engine in small portions.

You need to add oil of the same brand as it was filled in.

Oils, especially synthetic oils, must not be mixed with mineral oils.

We wait 2-3 minutes after topping up each portion of oil, and check the oil level again.

When adding oil, do not allow its level to rise above the notched area.

Too high an oil level can cause it to enter the crankcase ventilation system and through this system into the car's combustion chamber.

This can lead to catalytic converter failure.

Oil and oil filter changes

It is recommended to change the oil every 15 thousand kilometers of the vehicle.

But here you need to take into account the quality of the filled oil and operating conditions.

If, when checking the oil level, we find that the oil in the sump is very dark and very different from the one used, then it must be replaced ahead of time with the replacement of the oil filter.

For the K4M engine, oils are used - engine oils with API quality class: SM; SL and SAE viscosity: 5W30; 5W40; 5W50; 0W30; 0W40.

4.8 liters are poured into the oil system.

We install the car on a viewing ditch or a lift.

Removing the protection of the power plant (article - Removing the protection of the Nissan Almera power unit)

Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap.

We clean the oil pan around the drain plug from dirt.

Weaken the drain plug with an 8-sided tetrahedron

We substitute a container for draining used oil.

Having unscrewed the plug manually, drain the oil.

A washer with an elastic band is installed under the cork, if the washer is deformed, you can replace it with a copper washer with an inner hole diameter of 16 mm.

We wrap and tighten the drain plug.

Changing the engine oil filter

Unscrew the oil filter by turning it counterclockwise.

If this cannot be done manually, loosen the filter with a puller.

If there is no puller, we pierce the filter housing with a powerful screwdriver (closer to the bottom of the filter so as not to damage the fitting ep engine) and unscrew the filter using a screwdriver as a lever.

We clean the filter seat on the cylinder block from dirt and oil drips.

We apply engine oil to the filter o-ring and wrap the filter by hand until the o-ring comes into contact with the cylinder block.

Tighten the filter another 2/3 turn to seal the connection.

Pour about 4.0 liters of engine oil into the engine through the oil filler neck.

Close the oil filler cap.

Start the engine for 1-2 minutes.

We make sure that the indicator of insufficient (emergency) oil pressure in the engine has gone out in the instrument cluster and there are no oil leaks from under the drain plug and filter.

Stop the engine.

After a few minutes (so that the oil has time to drain into the oil pan), we check the oil level and bring it to normal.

If necessary, tighten the oil filter and drain plug.
