General information
It is desirable to remove and clean the throttle body after 15 000 km of vehicle mileage or when faults are detected.
Main faults of the throttle body:
- incorrect determination of the extreme positions of the throttle valve;
- incorrect programming of the initial position of the throttle valve;
- fault of the throttle valve drive (jamming);
- mismatch between the target and current positions of the throttle valve;
- mismatch between the target and current positions of the throttle valve after the latter rebounds from the lower stop (causes a transition to the backup mode).
Removing and cleaning the throttle body
Note: we will show the dismantling and cleaning using the 2.0 l engine as an example. On engines of other power ratings the process is not particularly different.
Necessary tools: flat-blade screwdriver, 10 mm socket spanner, cleaning fluid.
Precautions: we prepare the vehicle for repair. We disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Cleaning:
- We clean the throttle body with carburettor cleaning fluid.
- We blow the throttle body through with compressed air.
Refitting: we refit the throttle body in the reverse sequence. When refitting we check the rubber sealing ring.
After replacement: after refitting the throttle body it is recommended to perform the throttle adaptation using diagnostic equipment or by means of several ignition switch-on cycles.
