Place the vehicle on a two-post lift

Remove the engine oil pan cover and right front wheel

Remove the accessory drive belt.

Install clamps on the power steering pump inlet and outlet lines.

Remove the inlet line clamp on the pump.

Disconnect the inlet line.

Unscrew the high-pressure line fitting on the pump.

Remove the high-pressure line from the pump.

Install plugs on the power steering lines and pump to prevent contamination of the system.

Fig. 1. Removing the power steering pump: 1 – Mounting bolts

Remove the three mounting bolts to the multi-function bracket and remove the power steering pump (Fig. 1).

Installation

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Tighten to the specified torque:

  • – Power steering pump mounting bolts (21 Nm);
  • – High-pressure line fitting on the steering gear (21 Nm).

First tighten the two mounting bolts on the accessory drive belt side to the specified torque, then the bolt on the opposite side.

The removed belt must be replaced.

Replace the tensioner and idler belt along with the belt. Rollers.

Fill the power steering system with oil (Elfrenaultmatic D2).

Bleed the system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock with the engine off.

Bleed the system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock with the engine running.

Fill the oil reservoir to the correct level.

Check for leaks.

Install the engine oil sump guard.

Replacing the Power Steering Pump Pulley

Remove the power steering pump

Use a press with a jaw puller.

Installation

Fig. 2. Pressing on the power steering pump pulley: 1 – special tool

Press on the pulley using tool (Dir1083-01) until the press-on size is achieved (liberally lubricate the threads and bearing surface of the pulley) (Fig. 2)

Fig. 3. Press-on diagram

Maintain the pulley press-on dimension, X = 25.4 mm ±0.4 (Fig. 3)

Checking the intermediate shaft

Fig. 4. Measuring the Telescopic Shaft Length

Check

These vehicles are equipped with a non-disassemblable "telescopic shaft - steering shaft - steering column" unit.

If the steering shaft universal joint yoke clamp bolt cannot be tightened, or if after a collision you are unable to verify that the telescopic shaft length is within specifications, replace the entire steering column assembly (Fig. 4).

Make sure the telescopic shaft length is: L = 313.90 ±1 mm.

Do not pull on the telescopic shaft (after an impact).
