The exhaust system consists of a front pipe, silencer and resonator
The downpipe is flanged (through a gasket) to the exhaust manifold with two studs with brass nuts and a clamp to a bracket rigidly fixed to the transfer case.
The exhaust pipe is inserted into the muffler pipe and tightened with a clamp.
The silencer and resonator flanges are connected to each other by three bolts through a gasket.
The muffler is suspended from the frame on a rubber cushion, and the resonator is on a rubber belt with spring plates.
This connection provides some mobility of the exhaust system, which reduces the transmission of vibrations to the body and reduces noise in the cab.
The muffler and resonator are non-separable, they are replaced in case of failure.
Checking and maintaining the system consists in its periodic inspection and tightening loose fasteners.
The passage of gases can be judged by the increased sound of the exhaust and traces of soot on the outer surface of pipes, mufflers and their joints.
Replacing suspension parts of the exhaust system
We clean the suspension elements from dirt and process the threaded connections with a penetrating liquid (WD-40, kerosene, brake fluid, etc.)
Using keys 13 and 12, unscrew the resonator mounting nut
Remove the lower spring and belt cover
Using keys 12 and 13, unscrew the nut of the suspension belt bolt
And remove the parts of the resonator suspension
Install the parts of the resonator suspension in reverse order
Remove the muffler clamp
Using a 13 wrench, unscrew the lower nut of the silencer suspension shock absorber
Remove the shock absorber from the bracket
Install the shock absorber in reverse order
Resonator replacement
We install the car on a lift or a viewing ditch
We clean the suspension elements from dirt and process the threaded connections with a penetrating liquid (WD-40, kerosene, brake fluid, etc.)
With a 13 wrench, unscrew the three nuts, holding the resonator mounting bolts with a 12 wrench
Disconnect the resonator from the suspension belt
Remove the resonance p from the car
Remove the gasket
Using a 13 wrench, we loosen the nuts of the clamp ladder and rearrange the clamp with the suspension rod to the exhaust pipe of the new resonator
Install the resonator in reverse order, replacing the gasket and applying graphite grease to the bolt threads
Replacing the muffler
We install the car on a viewing ditch or lift
Remove the resonator as above
We clean the suspension elements from dirt and process the threaded connections with a penetrating liquid (WD-40, kerosene, brake fluid, etc.)
Using a 13 wrench, we loosen the nuts of the stepladder of the clamp connecting the muffler to the exhaust pipe
Move the clamp forward along the exhaust pipe
Using keys 12 and 13, unscrew the nut of the muffler clamp bolt
Unbending, remove the clamp
Tap the connection with light hammer blows
Remove the muffler by lightly tapping its front edge with a hammer with a rubber head or mallet
Install the muffler in reverse order
Replacing the downpipe
We install the car on a lift or a viewing ditch
Remove the resonator and muffler as described above
Using a 17-head with an extension, unscrew the brass nuts of the two studs securing the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold
Using a 13 wrench, unscrew the two nuts of the stepladder securing the front pipe to the transfer case bracket
Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold studs
A sealing gasket is installed between the exhaust pipe and the manifold
Remove the flange from the intake pipe and rearrange it to a new pipe
Installing the reception pipe in the reverse order, replacing its gasket and installing new brass nuts, apply graphite grease to the threaded connections.
