We replace the cylinder head gaskets when a coolant and oil leak appears in the connection between the cylinder head and the cylinder block.
To do the job, we need a tool: keys 8x10, 12x13, 17x19, 22x24, 27x30, replaceable heads for 13, 14, 17, 19 mm, a knob, a knob blade, a screwdriver, a chisel, a hammer, a flat scraper, a jack, a stand, dishes for fuel, oil and coolant, torque wrench.
First of all, we disconnect the electric wires from the batteries.
We drain the coolant.
We unscrew the bolts and remove the cover of the front hatch of the clutch housing.
Raise the front of the car and place the support under the first frame cross member.
Unscrew the drainage pipeline (return line) with a 14 head and a wrench, Figure 1.
We unscrew the high pressure pipes from the engine injectors.
We unscrew the high-pressure pipes from the injection pump, Figure 3.
We loosen the tightening of the exhaust manifold mounting bolts (Fig. 4).
Remove the intake manifolds.
Unscrew the bolts with a 13 head and disconnect the thermostat box flange.
We unscrew the bolts securing the water pipes and use the mounting spade to separate the pipes from the cylinder heads.
We unscrew the bolts 1 (Fig. 5), fastening the cylinder head covers and remove the covers 2 with gaskets 3.
On the heads of the fourth and eighth cylinders, you need to unscrew the nuts securing the rocker arm struts and remove the struts assembled with the rocker arms and clamps of the rocker arms and pusher rods.
With a 19 head, we loosen the tightening of the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in Figure 6, then turn them out, remove the heads and mark their numbers.
Do not put the head down with a mating plane, so as not to damage the nozzles of the nozzles.
We take out the pusher rods and place them in accordance with the cylinder head numbers.
We remove the cylinder head gaskets: sealing and steel for the gas joint.
We clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder heads and cylinder block from carbon deposits and scale
Installing cylinder head gaskets
We install gaskets on the cylinder block.
We install new steel gaskets for the cylinder heads on the upper end of the liners (before installing, we lubricate the steel gaskets with engine oil).
We install the pusher rods, screw in the adjusting screws.
We blow through the threaded holes, clean them of dirt and blow them with compressed air.
We install the cylinder heads, centering them on the pins of the block, while making sure that the adjusting screws for the thermal clearances go into the ends of the rods.
Before screwing in the head bolts, we lubricate the threaded part of the bolts with graphite grease mixed with engine oil.
We tighten the head bolts in three steps in the sequence shown in Figure 6:
- the first intake - 39.2 ÷ 49.1 Nm (4 - 5 kgcm);
- second intake - 117.7 ÷ 147.2 Nm (12 - 15 kgcm);
- the third reception - 156.9 ÷ 176.5 Nm (16 - 18 kgcm).
We adjust the thermal clearances in the valve mechanism. The clearance for inlet valves is 0.25 - 0.30, for exhaust valves 0.35 - 0.40 mm.
Install the front clutch housing cover.
We screw in the bolts of the exhaust manifolds.
We install the head covers with gaskets and fix them with bolts and flat washers.
We install water pipe gaskets, water pipes assembled with a connecting pipe, tighten with bolts with flat and spring washers.
We attach the flange of the thermostat box with bolts with flat and spring washers.
We install the intake manifolds and connect the pipes to the heads.
We take out the stand from under the front of the car and fill in the coolant.
We connect the electric wires to the battery.
We start the engine and check the operation of the gas distribution mechanism.
