In the article, we will consider the replacement of elements of the exhaust system
The replacement of the exhaust manifold was considered in the article - Removing the exhaust manifold of the Nissan Almera with the K4M engine.
Replacing silencer pipe suspension pads
Replace the rubber suspension pads if they are damaged
We install the car on a lift or a viewing ditch
We insert a screwdriver into the hole in the pillow, into which the pipe bracket is inserted.
We squeeze the pillow with a screwdriver and inject WD-40 or a similar liquid into the hole in the pillow, you can use brake fluid or kerosene.
We also do the same operation with another hole in the pillow, which includes the body bracket
After that, we pull the pillow from both brackets one by one.
If you need to replace the pillow, you can simply cut the pillow with a knife.
We clean the pillow mounting brackets and moisten them with soapy water
We put the pillow first on the body bracket and then on the pipe bracket.
Removing the complete muffler system
System elements can be replaced completely, or can be replaced individually
If an element needs to be replaced without completely replacing the system. Then this element is cut out according to the set marks.
To replace the system completely, install the car on a lift or inspection ditch.
To remove the part of the exhaust system from the space between the body and the rear suspension beam, hang the rear of the car.
Disconnect the diagnostic oxygen sensor wiring harness from the wiring harness connector
Remove one by one the two rubber suspension pads of the exhaust system from the body brackets, as described above
Using a 14-head with an extension and cardan, unscrew the two nuts securing the exhaust pipe flange to the exhaust manifold flange
Remove the springs from the studs (the nut may come loose with the stud).
Remove the exhaust pipe flange from the exhaust manifold flange and remove the sealing spherical ring from the exhaust manifold flange.
Check the ring for defects, if defects are found, replace the ring.
We move the muffler system back and, passing between the rear suspension beam and the bottom of the body, remove the exhaust system.
Install the exhaust system in reverse order.
Replacing individual parts of the exhaust
We replace individual elements of the exhaust gas system in cases of burnout, through corrosion, major mechanical damage, or if the catalytic converter fails.
We carry out work on a viewing ditch or overpass.
If necessary, remove the oxygen concentration sensors.
Since the design of the exhaust system is non-separable (with the exception of the connection between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe), a cutout is required to replace a separate element of it remove the part to be replaced from the system piping.
Auxiliary silencer, main silencer and catalytic converter with downpipe are available separately as spare parts.
To connect the parts, you must also purchase one or two (when replacing an additional muffler) special clamps.
Before replacing the exhaust pipe with a catalytic converter or an additional silencer, we mark the cut point on the pipe connecting the converter and the additional silencer.
To do this, we divide in half the distance (which is - 80 mm) between the two marks located on the pipe and mark the place of cutting with chalk.
We cut the pipe with auxiliary tools according to the marked mark.
After cutting the pipe, you can replace the downpipe with catalytic converter.
To do this, disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and remove the exhaust pipe with the catalytic converter.
Having installed a new exhaust pipe with a converter, we connect the pipes between the converter and the additional silencer with a special clamp (a clamp for a pipe with a diameter of 45 mm is required).
To replace an additional or main muffler, you need to cut the pipe connecting them.
To do this, draw a line with chalk or a marker in the middle between two marks on the pipe connecting the mufflers (in the area of the left spring of the car's rear suspension).
Use a hacksaw to cut the pipe along the marked mark.
Then, when replacing the main silencer, remove the silencer bracket from the rubber cushion and remove the silencer.
When replacing an additional silencer, we also cut the pipe connecting the silencer and the catalytic converter (see above), and remove the additional silencer by removing the bracket of its pipe from the rubber cushion.
When installing a new main or additional muffler at the junction of their pipes, we use a special clamp (for a pipe with a diameter of 40 mm).
