The throttle actuator cable and pedal are replaced in the event of a breakage or for repair.
Shown using the example of a vehicle equipped with the K4M engine.
On a vehicle with the F4R engine the pedal lever differs in design, but the operations are carried out in a similar way.
For the task the following tools are required: 13 spanner, plastic trim removal tool or flat-blade screwdriver.
Removing the accelerator pedal (throttle control)
Inside the vehicle, under the instrument panel, prise up the retaining washer of the sound insulation covering with a plastic trim removal tool.
Remove the washer.
Withdraw the cable end from the groove in the pedal lever and disconnect the cable.
On a vehicle with the F4R engine, compress the wiring harness connector clips and disconnect the connectors from the pedal position sensor.
Undo the nuts securing the pedal bracket to the front bulkhead and remove the pedal.
Refit the pedal in reverse order.
Adjustment and replacement of the accelerator cable of the K4M engine
If on the K4M engine the throttle does not open fully or does not close fully, the cable of its actuator must be adjusted.
Press lightly with a finger on area «A» from the bracket «B» securing the cable sheath to the lever «C» of the throttle shaft actuator.
With correct adjustment the cable slack must not exceed 3–5 mm.
With the pedal released the throttle must be closed, and with the pedal pressed to the stop – fully open (the throttle actuator lever then must not have any additional travel).
For adjustment, remove the spring clip from the cable sheath end.
Push in or pull out the end to the required length from the bracket on the cylinder head cover.
After this, secure the position of the end by inserting the spring clip into the corresponding groove on the end.
If by adjusting the throttle actuator it is impossible to achieve full opening or closing of the throttle, or if the actuator jams, replace the cable.
Move the actuator lever to the throttle open position.
Disconnect the cable end from the lever.
Release the cable by withdrawing the end of its sheath from the bracket on the cylinder head cover.
Withdraw the cable sheath from the holder on the battery tray bracket.
Remove the intake silencer (article – Removal and installation of the air intake and resonator Renault Duster).
Under the instrument panel inside the vehicle, withdraw the cable end from the groove in the pedal lever.
Withdraw the cable into the engine compartment.
Refit the cable in reverse order and adjust the throttle position.
