It is necessary to check the tension and condition of the accessory drive belt at every maintenance
There should be no traces of engine oil on the belt, there should be no scuffs, fraying, cracks and grooves.
A sign of insufficient belt tension and the need to replace it is a characteristic whistle when the engine is running.
If the belt tension is insufficient, the voltage at the generator terminals may decrease, and the circulation of coolant in the engine cooling system deteriorates.
If we are not removing the belt for replacement, then you need to mark one of the edges of the belt in order to preserve the direction of its movement during assembly.
To replace the belt, you will need: socket head 16, flat-blade screwdriver.
We prepare the car for the job. We open the hood.
We loosen the belt tension by turning the tensioner lever clockwise with the wrench put on the head of the tension roller bolt to the tensioner lever.
We remove the belt from the pulleys of the intermediate roller and the power steering pump, from the pulleys of the crankshaft, generator and water pump and remove the belt from the engine compartment.
We check the condition and, if necessary, replace the lower intermediate roller.
To do this, unscrew the bolt securing the roller to the generator bracket.
We shoot the roller.
Remove the washer from the bolt
Use a screwdriver to pry on the fixing washer of the roller mounting bolt
Removing the spacer sleeve
We remove the bolt and the pressure washer from the roller
Install the new intermediate roller in reverse order.
If you need to replace the tensioner roller, unscrew the bolt securing the roller to the tensioner and remove the roller.
Install the new tensioner roller in reverse order.
If you need to replace the tensioner assembly, loosen the tightening of its fastening
Remove the bolt from the hole and remove the tensioner
Install the tensioner in reverse order.
We insert the pin on its base (shown by the arrow) into the hole on the generator bracket.
If you need to replace the upper intermediate roller (increased play or noise during operation), unscrew the bolt of its fastening to the cylinder head
And we shoot the roller
Use a screwdriver to pry on the fixing washer of the roller mounting bolt
Remove the washer from the bolt
Removing the spacer sleeve
We take out the thrust washer
We remove the bolt and the pressure washer from the roller
Install a new intermediate roller in reverse order
Install the new belt in the reverse order of removal.
If you are installing an old belt, then you need to install it according to the previously applied mark.
We turn the crankshaft two turns and make sure that the V-grooves of the belt coincide with the grooves of the pulleys.
