We remove the flywheel when overhauling the engine or when repairing the flywheel itself
To do the work, you will need tools: a head for 18, a wrench for 10, 12, 17, a mandrel for centering the clutch disc, a flat-blade screwdriver.
We prepare the car for the job.
We install the car on a lift or a viewing ditch.
We remove the gearbox.
We remove the clutch.
We mark the position of the flywheel relative to the crankcase in order to set it to its previous position (after that, the crankshaft cannot be turned so as not to knock down the position of the flywheel).
The flywheel mounting bolts are evenly spaced around the circumference, so the flywheel can be installed in one of two diametrically opposite positions determined by the dowel pins.
The flywheel hub has a QR code mark between two adjacent mounting bolt holes.
The same mark is applied to the end of the crankshaft, which becomes visible after removing the flywheel.
When installing the flywheel, you need to achieve the same angular position of both marks.
If the marks are poorly visible or missing, you need to use your own marks applied by yourself.
We unscrew any two flywheel mounting bolts located in diameter, holding the flywheel from turning with a screwdriver.
Instead of bolts, we screw in two studs M12x1.25x90 in size.
These pins are required to prevent the flywheel from falling off when pulled out of the flywheel housing.
Unscrew the remaining six flywheel mounting bolts.
We introduce a hook into the gap between the flywheel and the flywheel housing
Pull the hook towards you, and move the flywheel along the installed studs
Removing the flywheel
We check the condition of the gear rim, in case of severe wear of the teeth, the flywheel must be replaced
We also replace or repair the flywheel if risks or scuffs appear on the mating surface of the clutch disc.
The runout of the flywheel, measured along the toothed rim, should not exceed 0.5 mm.
To remove deep scratches and scuffs, the contact surface of the driven disc can be sanded, but the metal layer to be removed should not exceed 0.3 mm.
We check the condition of the support bearing of the input shaft of the gearbox, pressed into the flywheel socket.
If there is a large play or seizure of the rolling elements, the bearing must be replaced.
Press in the new bearing by applying force to the outer ring of the bearing using a suitable mandrel.
Install the flywheel according to the marks in reverse order.
Flywheel bolts must be replaced with new ones.
Flywheel Bolt Tightening Sequence:
- first tighten with a torque of 30 Nm;
- turn it 180˚;
- tighten with a torque of 30 Nm;
- turn 90˚ once.
