A three-phase alternator 5272666 from ZHEJIANG DEHONG is installed on the Cummins ISF2.8 power plant
The generator is a three-phase synchronous electric machine with electromagnetic excitation.
The alternator rotor is driven by the accessory drive belt.
Generator technical characteristics:
- - rated voltage - 14 V;
- - maximum current - 120 A;
- - adjustable voltage - 13.5 - 14.2 V.
Possible causes of generator malfunction
- Cause of malfunction
Remedy
When the engine is running, the voltage on the display is below 13.25 V, the battery is discharged:
- Broken or slipping drive belt
Adjust or replace the belt
- Open circuit in the power supply circuit of the excitation winding
Reestablish connection
- Damaged voltage regulator
Replace regulator
- Generator malfunction
Replace generator
When the engine is running, the voltage on the display is higher than 14.75 V, the battery is recharging (boiling):
- Damaged voltage regulator
Replace regulator
Increased generator noise:
- Loose generator pulley nut
Tighten the nut
- Damaged generator bearings
Replace bearings
- Turn-to-turn short circuit or short circuit to ground of the stator winding (howl of the generator)
Replace generator
Keys 10 and 13 are required to remove the generator set.
Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery
To make it easier to work, remove the air filter.
Remove the air supply hose.
Remove the accessory drive belt (article - Cummins ISF2.8 Accessory Drive Belt Replacement).
We unscrew the nut securing the power wire of the excitation winding
We remove the tip of the wire from the terminal "L" of the voltage regulator
We unscrew the nut securing the power wire
We remove the tip of the wire from the output "B +" of the generator
Unscrew the left, short bolt
Unscrew the right long generator mounting bolt
Remove the generator from the mounting bracket
Install the generator in reverse order.
We tighten the generator mounting bolts to a torque of 46 Nm, in the following sequence: - left short, then right long.
Before installing the generator, push the threaded bushing in the rear leg of the generator a few mm.
The bushing is fitted into the paw hole with an interference fit, so we use a drift with a mandrel of a suitable size.
