The front suspension is independent, MacPherson strut type, with telescopic shock absorber struts, coil springs, wishbones, anti-roll bar
The main element of the front suspension is a telescopic shock absorber strut, which combines the functions of a telescopic element of the guide mechanism and a damping element of the vertical oscillations of the wheel relative to the body.
The coil spring, compression buffer, strut guard and top support are assembled on the shock absorber strut.
The load on the car body is transmitted through the upper support.
The shock absorber strut is connected to the suspension arm through the steering knuckle with a ball joint.
An anti-roll bar with rubber bushings mounted on it is connected to the cross member of the front suspension of the car with two brackets, and with the brackets of the shock absorber struts of the front suspension - uprights.
The levers and are attached to the cross member of the front suspension using rubber-metal hinges (silent blocks), and to the steering knuckle - by means of ball bearings.
The front wheel hubs are mounted on non-adjustable double row angular contact ball bearings.
Possible malfunctions of the front suspension and solutions
Cause of malfunction Remedy
Noise and knocking when the car is moving:
Loosening of the attachment of the anti-roll bar brackets of the car and its struts to the shock absorber strut of the suspension to the rear of the subframe - Tighten the loose threaded connections
Wear of rubber parts of the stabilizer and its struts - Replace worn parts
Top mount rubber wear - Replace strut top mount
Ball joint wear - Replace arm
Worn tie rod joints - Replace tie rod end
Worn front wheel bearings or loose hub nut - Replace bearing or retighten nut
Front suspension spring failure - Replace springs
Shock absorber compression buffer failure - Replace compression buffer
Avoiding a car from a straight line on a horizontal road:
Misaligned Front Wheel Alignment - Eliminate Causes of Misaligned Wheel Alignment and Adjust Wheel Alignment
Uneven spring settlement - Replace front suspension springs
Increased or uneven tire tread wear:
The angles of the front wheels are violated - Adjust the angles
Increased wear on suspension or tie rod joints - Replace suspension or tie rods
Suspension strut malfunction - Replace shock struts
Checking the technical condition of the front suspension parts
At each maintenance and repair, it is imperative to check the condition of the protective covers of the ball bearings of the suspension, the covers must not be mechanically damaged.
Find out if there are any cracks on the suspension parts or traces of rubbing against road obstacles or the body, deformation of levers, stretch marks, stabilizer bars and their struts, parts of the front end of the body at the points of attachment of nodes and suspension parts.
Check the condition of the rubber-metal joints, rubber pads, suspension ball joints and the condition of the upper supports of the telescopic suspension struts.
Rubber-metal hinges and rubber pads must be replaced in case of ruptures and one-sided bulging of the rubber, as well as when cutting their end surfaces.
Suspensions on rubber parts are not allowed:
- – signs of rubber aging;
- – mechanical damage;
Pay special attention to mechanical damage (deformations, cracks, traces of rubbing against road obstacles, etc.) of suspension elements, especially levers.
In the engine compartment, remove the plug of the upper shock mount nut
Checking the tightening of the nut of the upper mounting of the shock absorber strut
Check the condition of the protective covers of the ball bearings. If the covers are damaged, replace them
Check ball joints for backlash
To do this, insert the mounting blade between the steering knuckle and the suspension arm and, leaning on the lever, swing the steering knuckle
We make sure that there are no backlashes in the bearings by shaking the wheels in a vertical plane. If there is play, replace the bearings
When swaying the suspended front wheel, it is difficult to distinguish play in the hub bearings and in the ball bearings.
Ask an assistant to press the brake pedal: if you feel play in this case, then the ball joints are faulty.
Checking the play in the silent blocks of the lever to the cross member of the front suspension
To do this, insert a mounting spatula or a large screwdriver between the lever and the cross member near the front silent block and try to shake the lever
We also check the rear silent block.
If the play is large, even in one of the silent blocks, we replace the front suspension arm
Checking the reliability of the tightening of the upper nuts of the ball joints of the anti-roll bar struts
We also check the tightness of the lower nuts of the ball joint pins of the stabilizer bar struts
Check for play in the ball joints of the anti-roll bars
Checking the condition of the rubber pads at the attachment points of the anti-roll bar to the front suspension cross member
Checking the condition of the shock strut protective cover
We lift the cover and check the shock absorber rod. Byliquid leaks along the stem are not allowed.
