The engine oil pump is gear mounted in the timing chain cover
The pump drive gear is driven by the crankshaft
We remove the pump for replacement when its performance decreases
Remove the timing chain cover, described in the article "How replace the timing chain of the Hyundai Solaris engine»
Clean and rinse the chain cover from dirt and oil
We unscrew the two bolts securing the pump housing
We unscrew the three screws securing the oil pump housing
Remove the oil pump housing from the timing chain cover
Unscrew the plug from the hole of the pressure reducing valve
Remove the spring from the body
Remove the pressure reducing valve plug
Inspecting the details of the pressure reducing valve.
The plunger should be free of burrs and deep scratches.
Inspecting the pressure reducing valve seat.
There should be no scratches or scratches on its inner surface.
Small scratches and nicks can be removed with zero sanding paper.
Remove the oil pump drive gear from the timing chain cover
Removing the driven gear of the oil pump
Measure the side clearance of the oil pump gears with a metal ruler and a feeler gauge.
Gap should be 0.18mm
Measure the gap between the teeth of the drive and driven gears of the oil pump.
The nominal gap between the teeth of the driving and driven gear is 0.376 mm.
When assembling the oil pump, install the oil pump gears so that the marks on the drive and driven gears face the inside of the timing chain cover.
Replacing the front crankshaft oil seal
We apply sealant around the entire perimeter of the mating surface of the chain cover timing gear and oil pump housing
Install the oil pump cover and all removed parts in reverse order.
