The oil sump gasket is replaced during a major engine overhaul and if oil leaks through the gasket when tightening the bolts fails to eliminate the leak.
The following tools are required to carry out the work: 10 sockets, torx E8, 13 spanner, engine oil, wiping cloth, container for draining the oil, sealant.
We place the vehicle on a lift or an inspection pit.
We remove the engine undertray (article – Removing the engine undertray, wheel arch liners and mudflaps).
We drain the oil from the engine (article – Replacing the engine oil and filter).
We remove the right front wheel driveshaft (article – Removing and repairing the front wheel driveshafts).
We unscrew the two lower mounting bolts.
We unscrew the four bolts securing the oil sump to the clutch housing.
We unscrew the four bolts securing the oil sump to the front crankshaft cover.
We unscrew the left mounting bolt.
We unscrew the seven rear bolts securing the sump to the cylinder block.
We unscrew the seven front bolts securing the sump to the cylinder block.
We prise with a screwdriver and remove the sump.
We extract the gasket from the sump groove and fit a new gasket.
We clean the corners of the sump-to-cylinder block joints of sealant residues.
We clean the front crankshaft cover joints.
After cleaning off the remains of the old gasket, we degrease the mating surfaces.
We apply sealant to the corners of the sump-to-cylinder block joints on the flywheel side at the front of the engine.
We apply sealant at the rear of the engine.
We apply sealant to the joints between the front crankshaft cover and the cylinder block on the oil pump side at the front and rear of the engine.
We install the oil sump and screw in twenty bolts.
We tighten the bolts in the order shown in the figure.
Preliminary tightening 8 Nm. Final tightening 14 Nm.
We tighten the four bolts securing the oil sump to the clutch housing to a torque of 27 Nm.
Replacing the oil dipstick seal
We withdraw the oil dipstick from the engine sump.
We prise with a screwdriver and remove the lower sealing ring.
We also remove the second sealing ring.
We fit new sealing rings.
