Cleaning the parts and inspecting the drive
The outer CV joint should turn with a slight effort, without jerking and jamming, radial and axial play.
If there are, we replace the hinge
The inner hinge should move in the angular and axial directions with a slight effort, while jerking, jamming and radial play should not be felt. Otherwise, replace the hinge
Protective covers of the outer and inner hinge must not have cracks and breaks
The wheel drive shaft must not be deformed
Replacing the outer hinge
To replace the outer hinge and its cover, disconnect with a screwdriver or bite the lock of the large fastening clamp with side cutters and remove the clamp (single-use clamps)
We move the protective cover from the hinge body and knock the hinge cage off the shaft with a hammer through the beard, overcoming the force of the retaining ring
Remove the outer hinge from the splines of the shaft
Remove the retaining ring by removing it with a screwdriver from the groove of the shaft
When assembling, we replace the ring. Usually the ring is included with the new hinge
Remove the small clamp and remove the protective cover
When installing the hinge, we replace the cover. The cover is usually included with the new hinge
Before installing a new outer hinge, fill its cavity with grease (if the hinge has not been lubricated by the manufacturer) in an amount of about 100 g.
First, we fill the hinge body, and then we distribute the rest of the amount in the corrugations of the cover
You can use SHRUS-4 grease
Install the cover of the outer hinge and the hinge in reverse order
When installing the hinge on the shaft, we press the hinge with hammer blows on the hinge shank through a soft metal drift until the hinge cage is fixed with a retaining ring
Before fixing the hinge cover with a large clamp, pull the edge of the cover with a screwdriver to equalize the air pressure inside and outside the cover
Internal Hinge Replacement
To disassemble and replace the inner hinge and its boot, remove the clamps that secure the hinge boot to its body and to the shaft
If you are disassembling the hinge to replace a cover or If you want to install the previous hinge, mark the relative position of the hinge housing and the shaft
We move the cover from the hinge body and disconnect the body from the drive
Mark the position of the hinge hub relative to the shaft (if we install the same hinge)
We pry off the retaining ring of the hinge hub with a screwdriver and remove the ring from the groove of the shaft
Remove the hub with rollers from the splines of the shaft and remove the protective cover from the shaft
We wash all metal parts with kerosene until the grease is completely removed
We inspect the rollers, the hub and the internal cavity of the body.
Scoring, dents and corrosion are not allowed. If malfunctions are found, we replace the hinge assembly
We install the hinge cover on the shaft and fix it with a clamp
We install the hinge hub on the splines of the shaft, aligning the marks made during disassembly, and fix it with a retaining ring
Fill the cavity of the inner hinge with grease in an amount of about 100 g.
