Remove the engine and gearbox assembly by lowering it out of the engine compartment.
This requires a lift. To raise the front of the car higher.
In a garage without a lift, you will need a jack and sturdy, high enough supports to support the raised front of the car. This will allow you to remove the engine from underneath it, which is lowered to the garage floor.
For ease of work, remove the hood.
Relieve the pressure in the fuel system (see "Reducing the Pressure in the Fuel System").
Remove the air filter (see "Removing and Installing the Air Filter").
Disconnect the cables from the battery and remove it from the car.

Remove the engine guard and mudguards.
Drain the cooling system (see "Changing the Coolant").
If you are removing the engine for repairs, drain the oil from the oil pan (see "Changing the Engine Oil and Oil Filter").

Remove the exhaust system exhaust gases (see "Replacing Exhaust System Components"), since its downpipe prevents the engine from lowering.
Disconnect the wiring harness connectors:
- - from the injectors;
- - throttle position sensors;
- - absolute pressure;
- - coolant temperature;
- - intake air temperature;
- - idle air control valve.
Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the power steering pump pressure sensor;

- ignition module, top dead center sensor;

- oxygen sensor in the exhaust gases;

- knock sensor;

- oil pressure sensor;

- speed sensor;

- and the reverse light switch

Disconnect the two ground wires from the gearbox by unscrewing the bolts that secure them.

Disconnect the wires from the generator (see "Removing and Installing the Generator") and the starter.

Remove the engine harness from the holders on the engine (see "Replacing the cylinder head gasket") and move it to the side.

Disconnect the front end of the throttle cable from the intermediate lever on the intake manifold and from the bracket on the engine (see "Replacing the Throttle Cable").

Disconnect the canister purge hose and the brake booster hose from the intake manifold by squeezing its mounting clips.

Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel rail.

Disconnect the hoses from the thermostat, cylinder head, and water distribution pipe.

Remove the heater hoses from the holders on the bracket and set them aside.

Remove the bolt securing the canister purge hose holder and move the hose to the side.

Remove the power steering line bracket mounting bolt to the engine.

Remove the bolts securing the air conditioning compressor to the bracket and, without disconnecting the lines, move it to the side and secure it using any available method (for example, tying it with wire).

Similarly, disconnect the power steering pump from the engine.

Disconnect the transmission control rod and the front end of the clutch release cable.

Disconnect the front wheel drives from the gearbox (see "Removing and Installing the Front Wheel Drives")

Remove the subframe
Secure the lifting mechanism straps to the front and rear transport eyes and tighten the straps.

Remove the right and left engine mounts.
Check again that all wires, hoses, and attachments are disconnected from the engine.
Lower the engine to the floor.
Raise the front of the car (Raise the vehicle on a lift) to a height sufficient to remove the powertrain from under the vehicle, and install secure supports under the body.
Remove the engine from under the vehicle.
Install the engine and all removed components in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- - Before installing the powertrain, clean the threaded mounting holes of its supports with a tap to remove rust;
- - Be sure to replace the exhaust pipe gasket with a new one;
- - When connecting wires and pipes, carefully ensure they are correctly positioned in the engine compartment, preventing them from coming into contact with hot and moving parts of the powertrain.
After installing the engine, do the following:
Fill with oil (see "Changing the engine oil and oil filter").
Fill the transmission with oil gears.
Add coolant (see "Changing the Coolant").
Adjust the accessory drive belt tension.
Adjust the throttle linkage (see "Adjusting the Throttle Cable").
Start the engine and check for fuel, oil, and coolant leaks.
Check the oil pressure.
Listen to the engine; it should run smoothly, without any unusual noise or knocking.
