We set the piston to the highest point for the correct installation of the gas distribution phase when replacing or installing the timing belt
On F4R and K4M engines, the cylinder count is from the flywheel, not from the crankshaft pulley. The order of operation of the cylinders is 1-3-4-2.
To do the job, you need tools: socket heads for 16, 18, wrench for 13, screwdrivers, Torx head E14,
If there are no clamps, they can be made according to sketches.
Preparing the car for the task.
Remove the right front wheel
Removing the engine crankcase protection and the right front fender liner (Removing the engine protection, fender liner and mudguards Renault Duster)
We unscrew the four bolts securing the bracket of the front of the subframe to the body
Remove the bracket
Remove the accessory drive belt (Checking and replacing the Renault Duster accessory belt)
Removing the right suspension support of the power unit (Replacing the supports of the Renault Duster power plant)
We remove the top cover of the timing belt (article - Checking and replacing the timing belt of a Renault Duster car)
Rotate the crankshaft clockwise for the accessory drive pulley bolt
Set the marks on the camshaft pulleys so that they are in the upper position
Unscrew the hole plug with a Torx E14 head to install the TDC position lock.
The plug is located to the left of the flywheel in the cylinder block at the level of the first cylinder.
We screw the TDC position lock into the hole
Turn the engine crankshaft to the stop.
In order to fix the camshafts at TDC:
- remove the throttle assembly
- pry off the camshaft plugs with a screwdriver and press them out of the rear of the cylinder head
When assembling, we replace the plugs with new ones
When the piston of the first cylinder is correctly installed in the TDC position of the compression stroke, the grooves at the ends of the camshafts should occupy a horizontal position and be shifted down relative to the axis of the camshafts.
We fix the camshafts in this position with a camshaft lock.
