The intake manifold of the ISF3.8 engine is equipped with an intake air heater for the starting aid system.
The heater is a cylindrical heating element built into the intake manifold.
The intake air heater is designed to make starting the engine easier at low ambient temperatures.
The preheating system includes a heater drive (which controls the operation of the power relay) and a Start Delay indicator.
The operation of this system prior to a cold start is referred to as “preheat”.
The amount of time that the intake manifold heater must be on depends on the intake manifold temperature when the ignition is turned on, as shown in the illustration.
Engine preheating time
After a cold start, the intake air heater can be turned on for a warm-up period, referred to as “post-heating”.
The post-heating time is determined by the average value of the intake manifold temperature sensor when the engine is turned on.
The post-heating is switched off when the vehicle speed reaches 30.5 km / h.
Disconnect the negative cable from the storage battery.
Remove the air duct.
Remove the air inlet adapter.
Disconnect the starting aid intake air heater connector.
Remove the starting aid intake air heater.
Remove the power supply terminal.
Remove the nylon grommet from the groove in the intake manifold.
Disconnect the starting aid wiring.
Remove the grounding bolt from the cylinder head.
Remove the starting aid cylindrical air heater from the intake manifold.
Clean the starting aid cylinder intake air heater.
Clean the surfaces of the intake manifold and manifold with a clean cloth, steam and compressed air.
Check the mating surfaces of the starting aid cylinder intake air heater cover and intake manifold for cracks or other damage.
Install the starting aid intake air heater.
Install the starting aid intake air heater into the intake manifold.
Rotate the starting aid intake air heater so that its power terminal is aligned with the hole on the top of the intake manifold.
Insert a bolt through the hole in the manifold and screw it into the heater by hand.
Install a nylon grommet over the intake manifold power terminal.
Screw the terminal into the heater and tighten. Tightening torque 8 Nm
Connect the wiring harness to the starting aid intake air heater.
Install the ground wire and the screw to secure it to the intake manifold. Tightening torque 8 Nm
Install the air inlet adapter.
Install the air duct.
Connect a wire to the negative plug of the storage battery.
Connect the INSITE diagnostic complex.
In the menu items for the checks of the electronic control unit, select the check of the heater of the intake air "Intake Air Heater Override"
Follow the instructions on the display to determine if the intake air heater and its circuits are working properly.
Use a non-contact infrared thermometer to check the operation of the intake air heater.
