In the intake manifold of the ISF3.8 engine, the installation of an intake air heater for a start-up aid system is provided
The heater is a cylindrical heating element built into the intake manifold.
The intake air heater is designed to make it easier to start the engine at low ambient temperatures.
The preheat system includes a heater driver (which controls the power relay) and a Start Delay indicator.
The operation of this system before a cold start is referred to as "preheat".
The amount of time that the intake system heater must be turned on depends on the air temperature in the intake manifold when the ignition is turned on, as shown in the figure.
Engine preheating time
After a cold start, the intake air heater may be turned on for a warm-up period, referred to as “post-heating”.
The post-heating time is determined by the average value of the intake manifold temperature sensor readings when the engine is turned on.
Post-heating is switched off when the vehicle speed reaches 30.5 km/h.
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the duct.
Remove the air inlet adapter.
Disconnect the starting aid air intake heater connector.
Remove the starting aid air intake heater.
Remove the power supply terminal.
Remove the nylon grommet from the recess in the intake manifold.
Disconnect the starting aid wiring.
Remove the ground bolt from the cylinder head.
Remove the start assist air intake heater cylinder from the intake manifold.
Clean the starting aid air intake heater cylinder.
Clean the surfaces of the intake manifold and the nozzle with a clean cloth, steam and compressed air.
Check the contact surfaces of the starting aid cylinder heater cover and the intake manifold for cracks or other damage.
Install the starting aid air intake heater.
Install the starting aid intake air heater in the intake manifold.
Rotate the start assist air intake heater so that its power circuit terminal aligns with the hole in the top of the intake manifold.
Insert the bolt through the hole in the manifold and screw it into the heater by hand.
Install the nylon grommet onto the intake manifold power terminal.
Screw the terminal into the heater and tighten it. Tightening torque 8 Nm
Connect the wiring to the starting aid air intake heater.
Install the ground wire and its screw to the intake manifold. Tightening torque 8 Nm
Install the air inlet adapter.
Install the duct.
Connect the wire to the negative battery terminal emulator battery.
Connect the INSITE diagnostic complex.
In the menu items of the checks of the electronic control unit, select the test "Intake Air Heater Override"
Follow the instructions on the display to determine if the intake air heater and its circuits are working.
Use an infrared non-contact thermometer to check the operation of the intake air heater.
