Cuffs of the front axle elements are replaced when worn and during repairs
Replacing the final drive gear oil seal
We perform work on a lift or on a viewing ditch
Disconnect the driveshaft from the front axle, as described in the article "removing driveshafts"
Remove the cotter pin from the shank nut
Holding the flange with a tubular wrench, or inserting a mounting spatula between the two flange bolts, unscrew the nut by a 27 head
Remove the washer and flange with a dirt deflector
Pry off with a screwdriver and remove the gland from the cover
We press in the new cuff with light hammer blows on its outer edge
Installed collar must be flush with the end of the cover
Replacing the cuff of the axle shaft and the oil seal of the ball joint
Remove the steering knuckle
Use a screwdriver to pry off and remove the cuff of the axle shaft
We install a new cuff by applying light blows through a pipe of a suitable diameter along its outer edge
Cuff can be pressed in with light blows of a hammer
Finally we upset the cuff through the beard with a blunt end
To replace the ball joint seal, unscrew the bolt with a 14 wrench
Measure the protrusion of the stop bolt with a ruler
With a 17 key, loosen the locknut and with a 12 key, unscrew the stop bolt
Unscrew we head on 10 remaining eight bolts securing the gland cover
Remove the cover, felt ring
We also remove the baffle ring and rubber cuff
Remove the second ring and cardboard spacer
We install all the parts in the reverse order, soaking the felt ring with gear oil
Before tightening the locknut of the stop bolt, set the value of its protrusion
