We remove the levers if you need to replace the silent blocks or when the levers themselves are deformed.
We prepare the car for the task.
We install the car on a viewing ditch.
Replacing the upper arm of the front suspension
We brake with the parking brake.
We substitute the wheel chocks under the rear wheels.
Loosen the front wheel nuts.
We raise the front of the car and set it on reliable supports.
We remove the corresponding wheel.
Place a jack under the lower arm of the front suspension and raise the arm a few centimeters.
We unscrew the nut of the finger of the upper ball joint
If the ball pin turns, hold it with a hexagon
With a puller we press out the hinge pin from the hole of the fist
If we remove the lever for replacement, unscrew the nuts of the three bolts securing the ball joint
Removing the hinge
We mark the position of the eccentric washers of the adjusting bolts
This will help preserve the wheel alignment angles during subsequent installation.
Unscrew the nut of the lever adjusting bolt
Remove the washer and remove the bolt from the hole
We also disconnect the second hinge.
We remove the lever. Install the upper arm in reverse order.
For the correct installation of the silent blocks, the nuts of the adjusting bolts must be tightened only after the suspension spring has been compressed.
To do this, remove the shock absorber (it will be convenient to control spring compression through the holes for its installation).
Place the wheel and lower the vehicle to the ground, or lower the vehicle onto the support placed under the lower arm.
The spring is considered sufficiently compressed if the "E" dimension between the lower end of the lower arm (in the area of the shock absorber attachment) and the upper end of the subframe shock absorber cup is 319–321 mm.
Finally tighten the nuts of the lever adjusting bolts.
Install the shock absorber.
Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles (article - Adjustment of the front wheel alignment angles GAZelle Next)
Replacing the lower arm of the front suspension
Preparatory operations are the same as when replacing the upper arm.
We unscrew the two bolts securing the front brake caliper
Remove the caliper and tie it to the suspension parts
We unscrew the bolt securing the brake hose bracket and disconnect the bracket
We unscrew the bolts securing the stabilizer cushion bracket to the upper arm and remove the bracket
We unscrew the nut securing the steering rod pivot pin to the steering knuckle lever, keeping the finger from turning
Install the ball joint puller and press the finger out of the lever boss
Unscrew the nut of the upper hinge finger
If the ball pin "B" turns in the tapered hole of the steering knuckle, hold it with the hexagon "A" inserted into the axial hole at its end (for clarity, it is shown on the removed hinge).
Press the hinge pin out of the fist hole
We remove the shock absorber of the front suspension (article - Replacing the shock absorber and stabilizer of the front suspension GAZelle Next)
We compress the spring with a special device.
A lot of force is required to compress the suspension spring.
Therefore, do not use accessories designed for compressing springs of cars, or products of questionable quality.
If such devices break or slide off, you can get serious injuries!
The best fit for this job is a long tension screw attachment that fits inside the spring instead of the shock absorber removed.
We unscrew the two bolts securing the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Remove the steering knuckle with the hub assembly
We loosen the tightening of the rear nut of the axis of attachment of the lever to the cross member of the front suspension
We lift the car and remove the stop from under the lower arm.
Loosen the drawbar carefully until the arm is fully lowered and the spring unfolded.
Remove the drawbar and spring with spacers.
Loosen the rear lever shaft nut completely.
Remove the axle from the cross member bush and remove the lower arm
Install the lower arm and all removed parts (except for the shock absorber, since then it will be convenient to control spring compression through the holes for its installation) in the reverse order of removal.
For the correct installation of the silent blocks, the rear nut of the lower arm axle and the nuts of the adjusting bolts of the upper arm must be tightened only after the suspension spring has been compressed.
To do this, you can install the wheel and lower the car to the ground or lower the car on a support installed under the lower arm.
The spring is considered sufficiently compressed if the "E" dimension between the lower end of the lower arm (in the area of the shock absorber mount) and the upper end of the subframe shock absorber cup is 319–321 mm.
Finally, tighten the lower arm axle rear nut and upper arm adjusting bolt nuts.
Install the shock absorber (article - Replacing the shock absorber and the front suspension stabilizer GAZelle Next).
Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles. (article Adjusting the angles of the front wheels GAZelle Next)
